I called and confirmed what my dealer uses. They use Mobil One synthetic 0-20. Exactly what I intend to use after my 4 free oil changes.

You've already paid for the oil changes, might as well use them.

There are a lot of oils (and viscosities) that are approved to the dexos spec. Use the viscosity recommended for your truck.

0w-20 for the current 5.3 and 6.2, 5w-30 for the 4.3 and 6.0.

I had my 1st one done at 3200 miles because the truck was a year old since production date. I requested and was eventually allowed to watch the oil change and work after taking it to the general manager. 0-20w was used. The tech did a good job and we talked a lot. I asked him to prefill the filter but he would have forgotten had i not reminded him so I'd say unfortunately the filters are not getting prefilled on a regular basis. Say what you want, but those few seconds without oil pressure can't be good. Just my opinion

I had one done already and will be getting the second next week. So far so good! I'll use all free changes unless they mess up. I do my own changes using Pennzoil Platinum.

I always do my own work but if they are going to give me 4 free oil changes then I am going to use them and I have already done two of them, third one going to be in a few weeks. Oil brand or type does not matter, just put in what the owner manual says to use. I also never understood preloading the filter. I drove my last two truck over 150k miles till they rusted out just using walmart dyno oil and walmart filters or whatever was on sale with no problems including not preloading the filter. My work trucks are treated the same way with no engine problems when they get traded in. Plan on changing mine once a year (only drive 5k miles a year) with the cheapest oil that meets specs and a GM filter (they are usually are one of the lowest priced filters) after my 4 free oil changes are up. Whats most important is to do what makes you sleep better at night.

I had the dealership perform three oil changes so far. I am scheduled to have the last one done in February. I haven't experienced any negative workmanship from my dealer so why not use the free oil changes, you paid for them!

Why would one not take a free oil change from your dealer? If you're that concerned they'll screw it up, you need to find a new dealer.

Which is fine.... but I am not driving 2.5 hours each way for an oil change. Besides... I use better oil than they do and don't follow their schedule either lol.

2.5 hour drive is an excellent reason, but most have a dealer closer than that.

You don't have to have the changes done at the dealer that sold the vehicle (it's put through as warranty anyway).

I only live a few miles from the dealer but have averaged about 2.5 hrs each change. 10 minutes X 2, a short wait for tech writer, it all adds up. On my second oil change they over tightened the filter so it leaked requiring a 3 hr trip to fix. I have used 3 different dealers with much the same result. The oil change guys are likely the bottom of food chain. But it's still a good value, just need to check for leaks and check fluid level.

2.5 hours just gets me out of la la land and closer to a sea of dealers that may or may not have some competence. There are plenty hillbilly dealers a lot closer that I wouldn't let work on my wheelbarrow lol. Ultimately if the truck actually dies on me though.... I am stuck with these local yocals unless I want to trailer it myself...

I need to schedule my first. Coming up on 5000 miles.

They'll have it for the day. Software updates, etc. are also pending (curious on the shift pattern change as one of the updates is the elsewhere mentioned transfer case).

I bet I don't use all 4. I don't put enough miles on it, and they expire after 2 years.

I used all 4. usually around 5500 miles each interval. Was usually around 25-28% on the oil life monitor.

I will be doing it myself from now.
