  • How can we remove the limiter?

 

  • Does removing the limiter affect warranty?

What I don't understand is how someone can be going that fast and not notice it. Then again, most of the interstates (I81) where I live have a speed limit of 65 at the fastest. Never seen a road around here faster than 65mph.

 

I would have agreed with you until a couple weeks ago. I was in my 2016 Denali on an open highway, looked down, and I was at 92. I generally will not push much higher than 70-75 on this stretch. These trucks are so smooth and quiet, it really is hard to tell. My '02 Silverado would have let me know around 62 that I was approaching its limit.

Recently I drove my 2008 to AZ from Fort Worth for the first time. I discovered my limiter is set at 93 even though my factory tires were rated for 106. 93 sounds crazy fast when you have speed limits of 65 but when they are 80-85 it's easy to hit that when passing other vehicles. I told my wife I'm going to take it to the dealer and complain that it only goes 93 and file a warranty claim. :jester: Seriously though, I've never really considered a tune before but I will definitely have to get one if I ever plan on driving this truck through west Texas again.

Because a 6,000 lb vehicle w/ a huge wheelbase, near 10,000 lb tow rating w/ leaf springs, no weight in the back, junk all terrain or all season SUV/truck tires, steering about as tight as a U-boat, shouldn't be traveling at that rate of speed let alone any higher.

 

I think 80-85 is about as fast as you'd ever need these trucks to go, and even then they're not anywhere near as stable/safe at that speed as even most of the cheap econoboxes on the road these days.

 

God forbid you need to do a panic maneuver/stop anywhere south of 80+ in one of these trucks, wouldn't be pretty.

 

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and not everyone is comfortable going fast. Some situations dictate the need to exceed "safe" speeds. It also depends on the environment/conditions.

 

Maybe GM thinks the weight of the Yukon Denali XL is sufficent to justify a 111/112mph cut-off. I would be content if this were the case for the Sierra Denali.

 

I'd be curious to see if the Denali Ultimate cut off would be 98.

I see you have a vette in the garage, so do I, and that leaves me astonished that you could possibly think its OK to drive these trucks that fast. The difference between how a vette stops, swerves, and accelerates in defensive driving/panic situations @ 100 mph vs. a sierra denali is about as stark as how well the vette would tow a 5,000 lb trailer vs. a sierra denali.

I see you have a vette in the garage, so do I, and that leaves me astonished that you could possibly think its OK to drive these trucks that fast. The difference between how a vette stops, swerves, and accelerates in defensive driving/panic situations @ 100 mph vs. a sierra denali is about as stark as how well the vette would tow a 5,000 lb trailer vs. a sierra denali.

Because I want to and can if I want, having owned a C6 Vette that I took up to 185mph, a sportbike that made 180rwhp and took me to 195mph going 100mph in a truck is not that big of a deal to me or most others. Has nothing to do with the platform at all.

 

I took the governor out of my truck, moved it up to 130mph and on open highway have touched 110mph for a brief moment. Truck is very stable and solid at that speed, due to the truck using a 2 piece drive shaft I didn't stay there for long but the ride was very smooth the entire time.

 

And lets be honest, in theory no one needs to exceed 100mph at all anywhere in the USA no matter what the car is capable of, reality is though people are driven by speed and horse power and for some (like myself) I can handle the vehicle as long as the situations are appropriate for driving that speed.

 

Case in point, my wifes new ride is a 2016 Audi SQ5, AWD SUV that makes 360hp and weighs 4300lbs. Played around with a Subaru WRX on the highway right after we bought it and took it up to 140mph with no issues. Factory governor is 155mph on it and it will touch it with no issues.

That is probably the best explanation given. In my 3500 with Duramax with mbrp exhaust i can tell by the tone when in running 70-75mph but go from CC Dually to a rcswb and its really quite, i find myself having to slow down alot more often than not.

My 2003 suburban with a BlackBear tune removed the limiter. could easily hit about 115

current 14 sierra 5.3 will cap at 98
