the F150 is becoming interesting...

I really don't think GM will make one especially with the dmax in the Colorado/canyon and the very stout engine offerings in the half tons... I personally don't see a reason, unless it can squeeze real good MPG.

v6.

blah..

I was reading comments, did not know an inline 5 diesel was a modern choice out there. They passed on that one.

I'd do one, if inline 5. I am sure the diesel could push the cylinder down 144 degrees. :)

I see no reason to put a Diesel in a 1/2 ton truck, what for? The truck its self is still rated to tow and haul so much in a 1/2 ton form, as far as fuel mileage the extra cost for the Diesel motor will buy you a whole hell of a lot of gas in the difference of the gas motor mpg compared to the Diesel. I just don't see the reason for it.

Many people who buy 1/2 tons do lite towing and hauling and will not see the need for the Diesel but there are some who will buy it to just say they have a Diesel in the truck as a lot do but have no need for it.

I had a 04 Dmax lly that was used for towing and that was the reason I bought it but after about 4 years I didn't tow heavy anymore and had no need for it and couldn't see keeping it just to drive around so I got rid of it and went back to a gas motor and never looked back.

For me it's not about the weight a 1/2 ton truck can tow.

It's about with how much confidence he does it.

I'm already past the age to try to impress people with what I have.

No need for a diesel just to show off.

I'm switching between diesel and gas trucks on a daily basis.

A diesel (of the right size) is just so much more relaxing to drive.

There is no drama with a diesel engine.

If you were talking about the 7.3 powerstroke, 5.9 cummins, 6.6 duramax before the advanced emissions controls, I would agree....

But, new diesels are more advanced than gasoline engines.........

But you do realize that is exactly what drives a huge portion of HD truck sales right? People buy diesel trucks because it's the cool thing right now. I see that probably collapsing if gas stays cheap and diesel stays expensive (at least that is how things are here, I know it varies). For GM to pick up where it left off with the 4.5 at this point would probably be nearly as much work as starting from scratch since the 4.5 was developed before all this absurd emissions business. Maybe they took the long view and developed the engine with today's standards in mind but who knows.

The more light duty diesel options we get the greater the consumption will be, which should equate to it becoming more cost effective. I support it for now and would consider purchasing once I have the means.

The f150 testing with the land rover turbodiesel sounds interesting and promising! Although this just goes to show that the US is behind the ball as usual.
