Engine Warning light trick ?

So I have a 2014 5.3 litre GMC Sierra............the engine warning light (the one with a picture of a engine block) came on after a fuel fill up, so I am pretty sure it is just that typical situation. It has not gone off on its own after a few days. Is there a trick to get it to reset without having to disconnect the battery? I don't want to have to reset all my radio stations and clock. ...and I don't want to wait at dealer for a few hours to get it reset.

thoughts anyone ?

It's likely fuel cap related. Cap may not have been tight or it was cockeyed. If you want to wait, check the Canadian Tire Flyer, once every month or two a OBDII code reader goes on sale for less than 100 bucks. Not this week though! I checked lol. Amazon will have it too

Any auto store can clear light. They can also read the code and tell you why the light was illuminated.

I have always meant to buy one of those but was never sure what model to buy. Living far outside the city I prefer to figure things out first and maybe fix myself the rare time............so a OBDII code reader will work on my truck?

I have always meant to buy one of those but was never sure what model to buy. Living far outside the city I prefer to figure things out first and maybe fix myself the rare time............so a OBDII code reader will work on my truck?

I also live in the boonies. But, yes any ODBII code reader will work just make sure it has an erase or clear codes function which i believe most of them do.

Thanks Wilshire I just today at lunch bought one at CTC , was regular $199 on for $149........I am sure between me and my son in laws we will make good use of it....thanks

If it's the fuel cap, and you fix it, the code/light will clear itself after a few start cycles.

So I used my new $150 OBDII scanner and eventually figured out it and the code stored is "water in the gas" (P2269 if I remember right)

So obviously with winter gas etc, not something to worry about , may add some gasline antifreeze next time I am at gas station.......but I did try to use the OBD scanner to "erase" the code..and it says it is successful but the light stays on on the dash, tried numerous times .......frustrating, but might have to learn to ignore until the next free warranty oil change (my oil service is at 40% so still a month or two away.

Just an FYI, if you remove the power from the battery you wont lose the stations in the radio on the new trucks.

Yep did that Tjay (before I bought OBD scanner this week) radio stations stayed , code erased for a few hours then came back, that is I why I bought the OBD hoping to erase easier.........what a pain in neck our batteries on these trucks, ...they have a plastic plate that prevents leverage to unbolt positive terminal from battery, and in winter the tabs on the plastic cover (over fuses that are on top of battery) break in cold...........they definitely did not make access easy!

Sorry you had no luck erasing the code immediately. Did you erase and then scan again and it was still there? Truck running or just on? I run 200+KM per day so gas doesn't stay in it long lol

Resurrecting this post. I also got a Check Engine light. I have On Star and they did a diagnostics and a code P2269. On Star didn't say anything about water in the gas. They said something about a possible misfire code as well as something may be amiss in the exhaust system. Gonna call the dealer tomorrow.
