I have had the 9500ix for years. It's great. I do the waze app in conjunction as well.

I bought the hard wire kit and a mirror mount. Ran the thin wire up, over, and down the windshield. Hides easy and plugs in to an aux port next to your e/brake.

I have been using the 9500 for about 3ish years now and love it. Saves me many times and when driving through Cedar Rapids, it will alert me of speed cameras. HIGHLY considering getting the 360 though for the arrows. Always wanted that feature and heard the V1 was too noisy and too many false alarms. Thats why i went with the 9500 with GPS. now that the 360 is out, blends the best of both worlds.

 

I will even take the 9500 with me when i fly places and set it up in the rental cars!

Dont. Unless you push some serious speed the performance difference is negligible.

 

edit: i didnt realize they stole the arrows from the V1! if they work as good as they do on the v1, then it is well worth the upgrade. The arrows make a world of difference trust me

 

at 650 for the max though, i still think the v1 is the better value (400)

I rode in my buddies truck and he has a V1 that thing is going off alot more the my 9500. What I have been noticing lately is the 9500 is false alerting when I get next to newer small gm suvs like Arcadias I think its picking up there lane departure but its annoying.

The V1 is louder than the escort no doubt (because of the GPS lockout feature on the secort), but the settings can be adjusted to quiet it down a bunch. It will always be louder as it is, in my opinion, more sensitive than the 9500. I got the savvy kit for it which provides power through the diagnostic port and makes it so it is silent below 45 (the speed is adjustable). The false alerting is a new issue with the advent of lane departure, and the V1 just came out with "junk K fighter" which blocks out a majority of the frequencies used by automakers. the V1's software is currently the best at preventing false alerting from lane departure (it is impossible to block them all as automakers come out with new vehicles using different frequencies). I have yet to do the upgrade but plan on sending it in soon..

 

BTW this is a huge benefit to the V1, you can send it in for updates when new features come out / it starts to become obsolete, rather than have to buy a new detector every few years.

 

In conclusion, Escort 9500 probably is the best choice for most people, but if you push serious speed or want the most sensitive detector, the V1 is unbeaten. Pretty much all car guys (i.e. the gumball racers that race across the country once a year) run valentine 1's.

What do you consider serious speed? My truck shuts down at 104mph because of the bigger tires. I dont like to drive above 90mph unless passing.

I did two weekend trips last month that were 600 miles of interstate driving. I set the cruise control around 80-90mph which is 10-20mph above the speed limit. This trip is where I noticed false alerts the most as I had waze on and was paying attention trying not to get caught.

Look guys, im not knocking escort. Like i said, they're perfect for 90% of people. Serious speed is pushing atleast 20-25 over (in SC the speeding ticket is the same from 10 over to 24 over). If the max is good at blocking out the lane departure stuff, then that's awesome. Its still a steep price at 650 (compared to 400 for the V1) but It probably is the best detector right now because it has the arrows AND the gps lockout to quiet down.

 

That being said, i like Valentine 1 because It is upgradeable at a reasonable cost and because it has saved my ass many, many times. I did hours of research between the 9500 and the V1 and am glad i made the choice I did.

 

I ran from The middle of SC to the bottom of florida for spring break (with 4 cars following behind me) and I was pushing 95-100 most of the time. This is I-95 S and it is loaded with speed traps during spring break times. Didnt get a single ticket and we cut off a good chunk of time

Also, the MAX 360 wont pick it up on your truck because it is the only detector designed to ignore strong radar signals (your trucks lane departure) when it starts up and continue to ignore them until it turns off. I will say that is genius

I suggest you purchase the Blendmount and mount the 9500ix to the rearview mirror, then you can hardwire your detector and it looks like factory. Those tiny connectors are a booger to install above the rearview mirror in the back of the OE plug. I think if I was doing it again, I would run the wires along the headliner and down to the fusebox. My install is clean, but it took some time and effort to get it done.

 

Do you have any pics of the mount installed? Thinking about going that route.

I liked the Blendmount but chose to mount it up as high as it would go so it's out of sight to thieves. Kind of blends in up there. Also, finally had some time to mount the Smart Cord so I don't have to reach up and mute it. I connected it using the Aux power #11 and ground #10.

I love my 9500iX. I have the live subscription too, but like all the other posters, I use Waze more than the Escort app because there are more users using it. Escort should buy Waze or get an agreement with them so that it interfaces with the 9500iX. Now that would be great! I have the hardwired cord as well so my install is hidden.

The 9500iX is upgradeable too, also has GPS lockout. Mine was only $499. I like the Valentine one as well but is was beat in all tests done by consumer reports. My top end limiter is removed from my truck and i stay in the triple digits (i know its unsafe) especially lifted 7" with 35" tires. Neither radar detector is a bad purchase but both are better with the Waze app.

So after reading through this thread I have a question.

 

I have an Escort 8500 X50 Blue. I have been driving a 2007 Avalanche. I was rear ended a month ago. Insurance totaled it.

 

I have 2016 Silverado 1500 on order. It has Lane Departure. Am I reading in this thread correctly that Lane Departure uses radar for the technology?

 

I am going to have issues with my 8500 with my 2016 Silverado?

No idea on the 8500 but the Max 360 dose not have any issues nor did my Solo with the lane departure.
