Brake conversion

I'm wondering if anyone has ever tried or knows of someone who has swapped the brake system on a 1999-2002 Silverado for the brake style in the 03-07 style. That system seems to be a lot firmer and more efficient. It could just my impression of it compared to my 2000 though.

03-04 had the same as 99-02. I did put the 05-07 fronts on mine, it helped, but if your brakes are currently fine then dont change. If you are due for a brake job, then do it. It needs calipers, pads, rotors, and brackets.

So when you say brackets I assume your talking about the knuckle. I thought that in that body style they had some sort of electronic braking you know without the booster.

No. The brackets that the calipers mount to.

Does this fix the issue with the 1999 yukon mushie brake performance?

I'm looking into converting the rear drums to discs. Does getting 03-07 rear discs would be plug and play

I have never cobverted the drum to disc so i dont know

The 05 and up front brakes are bigger and a lot better, but keep in mind they need at least a 17" wheel, older 16" won't clear.

Is that why they ditched the 16" spare on the newer trucks? 04 had a 16" spare, my 11 has a 17" spare.

The disc/drum combo on my 11 is waaaay better than the all wheel discs on my 04.

The 05 and up front brakes are bigger and a lot better, but keep in mind they need at least a 17" wheel, older 16" won't clear.

Yes. A 16" will not clear 05+ calipers

I thought you said your 2011 drum/discs is better than the all discs brakes.

I know the brakebooster upgrade eon the 99 help a ton and instant improvements with braking. You will be Wasing money of you didn't do the hydroboost upgrade before you even tamper with the brakes discs or drums

I traded the 04 for the 2011. I stand by my statement that the disc drum combo on my 11 stops faster, with a firmer pedal than the 04 did.

But Id be interested in finding out how improved ther 2014-present 1500 stop.

They changed the brakes around on the trucks after 04 for the 05 model year. I think the system is pretty much the same from 2005-2013.

I just swapped out the OEM rotors on my 2013 Sierra with the 2014-2016 Duralife front rotors, and the 2014-2016 GM pads. The braking difference is noticeable. They are a direct bolt on-no mods.

Thank you! Are those the 'Black' rotors GM developed?

These are the ferritic-nitro carburizing (FNC) treated rotors (Duralife) that are standard on all of the new GM pickups. The fronts are a direct bolt on for the 2007.5-13 trucks. Mine had the typical GM grey coating on them, which matched what my original 2013 rotors looked like. The stopping power is better with these and the matching OEM pads.
