2014 Silverado Downshift

I bought a used 2014 silverado a few weeks back, VIN 3GCUKREC8EG247126. Overall the truck has been great however one thing that just seems odd is how it downshifts. I mainly notice it when driving around in town and under 30mph, the truck will downshift as I slow which I can handle assuming that's normal... That said, the 2-1 downshift when I'm coming to a stop can be brutally harsh depending on how hard I'm applying the brake or fast I'm stopping - sometimes almost throwing me forward. Is that normal?

I'm going to bring the truck back to the dealer for a very small vibration I get from about 60-65mph and see what they say. Not sure if this is the dreaded vibration many people talk about because it's very light and the truck is very smooth at 70+mph. Figure while it's there I'll ask them about the tansmission shifting.

Thanks,

Pete

Do a search on here, several threads already on the rough down shifts of the 6 speed trans.

it is downhill brake assist. it is perfectly normal... you can turn this feature off, but I believe it resets everytime you turn the truck off

The normal downshifting is fine, happens whether the grade brake is on or not.

As for the 2-1 is that happening in D or are you in M?

I too had noticed that in my '14 Silverado. Doesn't seem to be a big deal, but my Diablo In-Tune all but eliminated that.

My '15 Sierra wasn't quite as noticeable.

D

It doesn't always happen either, it's odd. Seems to do it more after the truck/trans is warmed up.

When it occurs does the instantaineous change from 99mpg to something lower? If so, it could be DFCO Exit.

When it occurs does the V4/V8 indicator change from V4 to V8? If so, it could be AFM Transition.

When it occurs is there an increase in rpm? If so, it is a downshift.

Do any two or more of these things happen at the same time?

I haven't paid attention to the MPG. It's in V8 by this point I believe and yes the RPM's jump about 300 or so.
