My truck is 5 months old now and has 14k miles already, when waxing my black 2015, i noticed about 4 smaill paint chips on the side of the bed on one side. Could this be a warranty issue? i keep the truck very clean and do not abuse it, i see no reason for paint chips. If anyone has had this issue and gm just gave them some bs excuse at the dealer, i wont bother. My dealer i bought from is 3 hours away. Do i have to take it to the dealer i purchased from?

I have a black 2014 that has the same problem. I have two chips and a few deep scratches. I went to the dealer and the told me to purchase a clay bar and touch up paint. I believe that the black on the trucks chips very easily compared to other brands. My buddy has a black jeep that he beats up and does not have any chips or scratches. Next truck will be silver of white!

I had 3 spots, all on the driver's side, where the paint chipped. Also black. There was no rhyme or reason to it and I never park near enough to anyone to get dings and these clearly were NOT a ding anyway. I bought some touch up paint and fixed them all. I do believe there is a problem with the paint though.

My 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 gets rock chips here in Texas on a regular basis. The paint appears thin and it doesn't take much to chip it right through the clear coat and primary color paint. The trouble is, on a color like Rainforest Green, touch-ups are going to show on areas like the hood in the right light. I've looked at used trucks for sale on various dealer lots and most of them have rock chips in the same places. Just resigned myself to the fact that it's a truck not a show car.

Paint chips are caused by a foreign object striking the paint. Not a paint defect.

You are right but it could still be a defect in the paint or application. The chips I have gotten were in places where it is not common to get impact from road debris. Something hit it and chipped the paint but whatever it was, most likely didn't hit very hard. My guess is that the paint formula cures too hard or there's something else wrong with the application.

Noticed on very thin scratches that they seem to expand, then you eventually see the primer coat. It seems like the paint pulls apart at the scratch making it look worse with time. SAm,e with with chips I'm guessing.

+1 ... why should GM cover something like this? It's not there fault after you drive it off the lot.

Is it impossible that some small rocks hit the side of your bed when kicked up by your tires on the highway... or the tires of other drivers in front of you?

Dealer is painting my bed next week. They said they have seen multiple trucks with chipping and peeling defects. COVERED :):):)

I would love to know why my tailgate keeps chipping....... Honestly.... How does a truck that sees basically zero gravel and has not had a trailer on it in the time frame get a tailgate covered in chips. And no...... I have never, ever driven with the gate down. What...... rocks come off the tires and circle back defying physics and smack the gate? My truck just wants all it's paint to fall off.

Once again the EPA strikes, you can blame the water based paints that US auto manufactures are required to use now. It is not as durable as the old urethane stuff, so the only way to fix it is to respray with urethane paint.

Hey fellers the other day I had to take a detour because of accident. Well dirt road I was maybe going 20 mph down it and got home to check it and noticed paint chips. What do you guys recommend doing or telling the dealer...?
