Hey guys. I priced out a new '16 Sierra today and wanted to make sure I was getting good headlights. I noted the Denali has some special lights that are optional on an SLT (which I am going to order). The question I have, is it worth the added cost? The option code is PDP-Headlamps, High Performance LED Headlamps. It will cost me $500 CAD for this and already I'm looking at a truck with an as built price of $65,375. Thanks for any input.

The optional LED headlights are the ones that automatically go into high beam mode I believe.

You're spending $65.5 large and you're worried about $500?

I would bet that one of the options packages that you checked off is already including the high performance headlamps.

You're right, I thought the same 'what's another $500', but if there is little difference in brightness or how much more it illuminates, I'm not interested. I'm not adding the block heater, not due to the cost, but simply because I don't need it. If it is the auto dim or high beam as Tjay74 remarked, I'm not interested. According to the salesman, it's not standard on the All Terrain or AT Premium package.

The LED headlights are worth every penny. If you are unsure, ask your dealer to let you drive both options at night and make the choice.

Thanks guys for all your help. After further research, I'll be adding them to the truck. Thanks B.A.I, I am glad someone chimed in with a real world experience as well. BTW, the Intellibeam headlight (code TQ5) is a separate option.

I think anything higher the a a/T is getting them anyway as part of a package, sle get them in a all terrain, otherwise I believe slt and up, I drove a 16 with them, there awesome, I also thought the intelibeam was part of this but it is another option

At this time, the PDP option is mandatory on SLT.

Intellibeam (TQ5 NEW! Headlight, IntelliBeam, automatic high beam on/off - Included and only available with (Y86) Driver Alert Package) is a separate option, and is available on sle and slt.

 

(order guide says PDP mandatory on SLT 'at start of production', but the requirement is still in effect)

 

FWIW, the LEDs can be added to an sle by adding the all terrain option.

 

"PDP NEW! Headlamps, high-performance LED headlamps with GMC signature LED lighting
On SLE - Required and only available with (GAT) All Terrain Package.
On SLT - Required on SLT at this time. Included with (PDT) SLT Crew Cab Premium Plus Package."
LED headlights are standard on 1500 Denali. (but Intellibeam is an option)

That's odd, because when my salesman went to make the order for the truck, it came up as a $500 option. The truck I will be ordering is an SLT with the All Terrain package.

I wish I had these headlights in my '15. I had the the "fix" done to my headlights, which helped. However, they still suck big time, IMHO. My LED lightbar sure does the trick though, when there is no other traffic around.

Are these the "good" headlights? There is a GMC bar over an orange light there but my headlights seem round where the other picture here seems oval

Your headlights are HID and the "c" shaped band is the LED part (daytime running lights/parking lights)

 

The optional headlights are full LED, both the headlamp itself and the drls. The full LEDs also do not have the amber light (turn signal) as this is incorporated into the LED band.

Be sure to check both sides of window sticker.

They often list the 'standard' equipment for the trim level on the LH side, and the 'as built' options (with pricing) on the RH side.

 

decee, if the truck is an SLE, the LED's are "required and only available" if it has All Terrain.

      My brother has an Escalade. The warranty has expired so he told his wife to go to the Valvoline quick lube he uses some times. They told her if her car was a 2020 and newer 6.2 engine they wouldn’t touch it. Hers is a 2019, so they did the oil change.

      The oil filter has NOTHING To do with oil leak. GM sources parts from 1,000's of vendors and as with anything mass produced, flaws are unavoidable.    Putting a larger oil filter will do nothing but satisfy emotions. The OEM filter is designed for the engine and perfectly capable of handling the demands on the engine. Oversize oil filter could result in reduced flow and overall lower oil pressure.

      You're better read than that Atlas. 😏   British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke formulated three adages that are known as Clarke's three laws, of which the third law – that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" – is the best known and most widely cited.   Stribeck and the pivotable Hersey Number isn't voodoo nor snake oil. That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling.

      You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
