Do you like RUST

I'm not a fan of a dipped frame either as it has a ton of negatives. It also has a positive and that is that it gets wax in to places a paint sprayer would never hit. I would like a power coated frame waxed over but what do you expect for 40-50 K.

That looks like a unique situation. My '14 with 24k miles has zero rust anywhere underneath...

I would go to the dealer and have a "chat"..

Lucky you. I have a 2014 and I am seeing some rust in some areas but minor compared to what most people have posted here.

Who knows in a few years rust may become a new fad look. Would you like to order your new truck with the blacked out look. Maybe camo is your thing . Wait we have one more option.....salt brined dip look.

Lol....... you know it really is funny as it is a look already...... just not on cars. I have these latern looking lights mounted on my house and shop that have photoeyes and motion detection. Always thought the color of them was funny and would be hard to get..... or even the previous owner painted them. Nope...... sure enough..... only available online from Home Depot and the color...... rust, lol.

On cars they try and give it a fancy term.... "patina" lol.

That is a 10 year old truck with a ton of miles. Also I think the frame is still good. Sure its rusted but from the pic's it doesn't look compromised or rotten anywhere. If that were a Toyota with that many miles if would have holes. Also you live in PA. Like you I live in Ohio and that's about 100K miles in pure salt/brine wash.

It definitely wasn't compromised. It had some scale in places, but most of it was just surface rust, no big chunks anywhere. My parents 07 with 130k miles was just refinished by my Dad with POR15. It wasn't much better than mine was...

You got lucky then. This was what my 2006 looked liked after I bought it with 232k miles.

You have 200+ thousand miles on it and you bought it used from someone who clearly didn't keep it in immaculate condition like i do with my vehicles. Not sure what you would expect with that amount of miles on something, you realistically are at the end of that trucks life cycle and i don't see anything rusted through s whats the problem?

What you will need to worry about if you already have not are the brake lines because gm didn't coat them until the gmt900 line, if you have not replaced those you will need to soon imo by looking at those pictures.

Didn't say I expected anything, I'm just happy when I hop in it and it starts up for me, and runs down the road. That's the nice thing about not paying $600 a month for a $40k truck. I expect less.

I've seen trucks with under half my mileage with frame rust, and that's what's really sad. With the coating being crap, and the chemicals they put on the road in the winter it'll never hold up. Mine is an example of what will happen if it is left go.

Believe me you would not want a powder coated frame. Powder coating does not stick to sharp edges, and will start flaking off in sheets trapping moisture between the coating and the steel frame. This is exactly why the frames are NOT powder coated.

If you live in states that have actual winter conditions for 3 or 4 months every year our vehicles are subjected to a very harsh mixture of metal eating chemicals. Seems like everyone wants bare pavement no matter what the weather . Driving on snow covered roads with ice spots just sanded is annoying to todays society it seems. Nobody likes to slow down or learn how to drive winter roads without a concoction of chemicals that destroy vehicle undercarriage. We must love it because nobody appears to go to town or city meetings and oppose it . We love the chemicals that keep our roads bare and bitch at the mfg . Really if you look at it we are paying dearly to have our vehicles destroyed so their is absolutely hardly nothing but bare roads in the winter . Remember your public works departments love this hot chemical mix because you love the bare roads and that don't want you upset when they want yearly raises for their fine work of bare roads . We all have to remember many states do not suffer from rust hungry hot chemical solutions such as mag chloride .

Summary.....

1. Re. GM corp or their customer assistance. No help, a waste of your time. Don't even bother calling them.

2. My dealer - Coastal Chevrolet in Pawleys Island, SC. My dealership and the owner personally addressed my issue the first day it surfaced. The dealership immediately offered to replace my truck (not realizing how difficult that would be). The dealership "had my back" every step. Upon realizing the difficulty in finding a replacement truck, the owner offered numerous options "to do the right thing". I picked up my new replacement truck yesterday! I guess this explains why some dealers thrive and others fail. I've heard the horror stories from others re. their dealers..... well let me tell ya - if you can find a way to get to Pawleys Island, SC go to Coastal Chevrolet. You'll be glad you did - I am, and I'll be back!

Glad it worked out and I hope this puts faith back into GM ownership.

BS, there are coating that can be applied.

My wife has a Vlovo V70, put it on a lift and it looks showroom new, some manufacturer's take the time and money to dip the metal and take several steps to ensure everything is coated. GM chosses the cheapest route and runs bare metal through a hot wax and calls it a day.

I have no idea what Volvo uses on their car line. But I do know in the 90's Volvo became popular for some in New England. Never looked under one then but everyone I ever saw after 6 or 7 winters the exterior sheet metal was rusting all to hell.
