Look at this - brand new 2015 Silverado purchased this week. Got home and had mechanic go over truck..... undercarriage is covered front to back with rust (frame, exhaust, engine, mounts, fasteners,...). Unfortunately, I can only load one pic?post-135655-0-17825200-1456517607_thumb.jpg

Looks way beyond "surface" rust too that we've seen before.

Is this a new truck or used? If it's used, I'm thinking someone put on used parts of some sorts.

Good luck!

Please keep us posted because I have a few spots on my new 2016 GMC. I have a Ram 2500 that is my company truck and that thing travels off road regularly and when I say off road I mean old logging roads, mine haul roads, and oil well roads which are not maintained at all and the frame nor any suspension brackets have any sign of rust. Keep in mind though the Ram uses painted frames too!!! Sure wish GMC did but I am sure the wax/grease coat does a good job until it flakes off.

Brand new truck purchased this week. The rust is not limited to the frame, it is everywhere under the truck. The dealer has admitted they got the truck "from somewhere else". I think the truck is water damaged but we'll see. Worse thing..... I traded a perfectly good 2014 Silverado with 8K miles due to the great deal......

Had mine up on a rack to make sure that the cat was welded and not bolted on. Lowlife scumbags are stealing the ones that unbolt from various trucks and cars. So we took it to our favorite muffler shop for a check. While it was up there, I checked for rust. Not a sign of any rust anywhere. I spend part of my summer playing campground host at a campground that was about 8 to 10 miles out on a dirt road. Not a sign of pavement for miles. So it has passed my test.

The rust in that picture was not caused by "normal" conditions while the ruck sat on a lot somewhere! The truck has been exposed to something very corrosive such as salt, fumes from chemicals such as muratic acid, or the truck has been underwater. Surface rust on a frame is one thing, but the studs and nuts have a coating that not only has failed, but show pretty significant corrosion.

Before everyone goes to blaming GM for the wax coating on frames, those nuts, bolts, and fasteners would not get coated or painted from any manufacturer.

I agree, but the coating is still crap lol!

I think GM honestly just dips these frames with rust, slag and oil on them.... hence why it bleeds through so fast or falls off. My 2015 had rust on it when I picked it up. I just painted over it for now with a rubberized undercoat but eventually once it bleeds through I migh buff it and try something. My truck sees gravel and salt and winter..... so the coating has no chance of staying on the frame even if it was applied perfectly!

What did you use? I am thinking I need to do the same soon.

Sure doesn't look like a normal rust situation. When I traded my 99 S10 in ,it had 310,000 miles on it, the frame was rock solid and I live in the North East with plenty of rock salt, unlike the Toyota dealership down the road that had dozens of trucks each month ready to be crushed and this went on for a few years, yet you heard very little about it.

Maybe that truck had been in salt water!

I had a 2014 silverado 2wd with 18K on it and traded it in for a 2015 4wd because I got a great deal and wanted a 4wd. I found a few days after I got the vehicle that I hade surface rust on ALL of the interior seat brackets on my 2015, along with many of the bolts on the interior, and on the outside door frame bolts. The bolts in the engine bay are a little more rusted than usual for a brand new vehicle as well. This is my fault, as I failed to inspect the vehicle before purchasing, as I assumed there would be no issues since it was a reputable dealer. I sent it in for warranty work to get the rust taken care of and, I personally checked it for flood damage, as well as some folks in my family who are reputable mechanics. No signs of flooding, however they agreed the rust was a little excessive. They didn't replace the brackets, but rather sanded them and repainted them.... and managed to scratch my steering wheel AND "fail to replicate" the various clunks and squeaks in my rear end, the horrid popping/cracking noise coming from the dash (which i am 100% certain GM knows that the 2014-2015 Silverado's have this problem), and various other issues. I got the truck back, and they rusted again in a single day. So now, it has been in the shop for TWO AND A HALF WEEKS, as they have decided to strip the interior first, and THEN order the new brackets... So in the meantime, instead of troubleshooting and working on the other issues it has while the brackets are being shipped, it just sat there. Needless to say, along with all of the other various horror stories I have read on this website, I doubt I will ever puchase another GM vehicle.
