I have the opportunity to get an 8ft bed from a truck identical to mine but its a long bed and mine is a short bed. Would it be more than just swapping beds? Would I have to extend a lot of wiring to make the switch? Figured it was worth asking before taking the bed. Its removed from a 2015 truck with 8 miles on it before the upfitter took it off.

Any and all help is GREATLY appreciated.

I'm no expert but it seems to me the wheelbase needs to be stretched as well.

That would be my thought as well.

Major work.. I did a 1990 silverado extra cab long bed. And made it a short bed. Cut the frame moved the leaf springs forward. 2 piece drive line. Shortened the brake line. It was alot of work but can be done.. obviously urs would be the opisite.

As silver mentioned. I think you would have to extend the frame of the truck to say the least. I don't think it be worth doing to your vehicle.

Yeah that's too much work. Passing on it. It was a free bed so thought it may be worth a shot.

Thank you for the responses

The frame is different from the short bad trucks to the long bed trucks, and then as said all of the wiring harness and brake lines would all have to be lengthened as well.

You really have not shared enough information here. I'm assuming 1500 series? Also the Long Bed in the 1500 series is available only in the regular cab configuration. I'm assuming that you don't not have a regular cab since you have an LTZ and the regular cab is not available in the LTZ trim. Also I'm assuming that you have a crew cab since that is usually sold with the short 5.8" bed and the short bed is not available on the Double Cab models.

The wheelbase with the Regular Cab, long box is 133". Wheelbase with the Crew Cab, short box is 143.5" (A big difference).

The first thought that came to my mind is what cjb321 suggested. I have seen a pickup with a matching pickup box trailer. It is a sharp sight!

I had a similar question  I have a 2015 crew, short bed (5.5) and wondered if I could swap with a standard (6.5) bed without lots of custom work.

The additional length is between the cab & the axle. So, everything would need to be extended.
