May check out the pirate link, too. For what we pay for so many services, free xm wouldn't be terrible

Works with anything you can play sound from a smart phone, tablet, computer, etc. I use android phone with Bluetooth connection to truck. In my workshop, I use a Bluetooth speaker with it. Spotify streams just like Pandora but you can also have it download up to 3,000 or so songs to play in offline mode so not using your data when away from wifi.

 

I also loaded a roku channel so I can play over tv and surround sound in house.

A few years ago I loved XM cause of the Howard Stearn channel. But those days are past. This time around I enjoyed the Jam On channel. After the first free 3 months it's cancelled already. My wife signed us up for pandora just before I got my truck. So streaming with it. But pandora is defiantly different type of programming, it's strictly streaming. XM has DJ's and is usually in sync with current happengs. If they XM call me with a super good deal I might have to sign up for Jam On and Willies Roadhouse channels. I consider these as Quality programming.

I miss the truckers channel. Art bell Coast to Coast in addition to the previous mentioned channels .. Guess I could try my AM radio for free. Just got to learn how to get rid of all the empty XM tabs on mylink.

Want free XM? I hear tell that if you disconnect the XM antenna while your subscription is active, then call in to cancel. They only send the "kill" signal out for up to 6 months before they give up. At month 7 or 8, plug your antenna back in and enjoy your free lifetime of XM ;)

 

This also doesn't work on the K2xx trucks either, no way to unplug the XM or OnStar modules anymore as they are integrated into the infotainment system now.

The antenna has to plug in somewhere, does it not? I can't imagine it's hard wired from the roof to the radio. I would just unplug it and see what happens.

Are you positive about this? I just asked someone and they pointed out where the cable was for me to unplug behind the radio. About to give it a shot over lunch, will let you guys know if it kills the sat radio as well.

Funny the mention of unplugging the xm antenna. I cancelled the xm on my old TBSS, about the same time it was sitting in the garage with a dead battery (I didn't realize it at the time the battery was dead). Well either the turn off signal didn't go through or the dead/disconnected battery didn't let the signal go through, because I got free xm for the rest of the time I owned it.

 

On a side note, I purchased a prepaid visa to purchase xm so they couldn't automatically recharge me, but it didn't take. They then said they would void the $2 fee for paying by check. The card did work on other purchases so I know it wasn't the card.

I bought a used Alpine XM receiver off a coworker from work, and sold it to him (I already had one in my car)... turned out that one never got the de-activation signal. He plugged it in and got free service for *years*.

 

Had I known about that trick at the time I would have swapped the unit for the one I already had in my car! I have to imagine that loophole has been closed by now.

 

I've been a subscriber since ~2002 or so? The sound quality has gone downhill but I like having access to the weather and traffic, occasional news channels, Radio LeMans broadcasts on XM, and sometimes it's nice to just have it there.

 

Otherwise, I use Spotify Premium. CD-quality sound, works well, and have unlimited music streaming with my cell service.

Just to clarify my earlier post, the offline capability does require a Spotify Premium account. You can stream with free account but Premium gives off-line and some other benefits which I can't recall.

I call them every 5 months and say I will cancel their service unless the give me the 5 months (now 6 months if you ask) introductory service for 25 dollars. They always give it to me and I never had an issue. Takes all of 10 mins.

 

The service is not worth full price.

Exactly. I have had 2 vehicles on my account for 5 years now and do the same thing. I get the same promotion on both vehicles and sometimes they will honor the "multi-radio" discount on the second one (this only applies to non-promo offers so sometimes they won't give it to me).

 

After taxes, royalties, and paper billing it usually costs me around $4-$5 per vehicle per month. I don't need XM at full price but for that price I'll keep it. Once they stop offering me that deal I'll just drop it.
