GM slashes free XM promotion after the sale

Looks like the promised 12 free months of XM was a scam. At the end of 2015 GM said vehicles now come with 12 free months of XM. XM has now sent out a letter saying the promotion was a mistake. Cut back to 3 free months but throwing in 2 extra months because of the "mistake". If you bought a new GM during the promotion, you are now cut back to 5 free months total. Expect to get a letter in the mail cutting your service if you bought during the promotion.

I have been an Sirius and XM and SiriusXM subscriber since 2008 in one fashion or another but after this trial ends I am not entirely convinced that I am going to keep the service. When I transferred my account and account balance/credit from my old truck to this one I had to jump through hoops after being connected to 5 rude Listener Care reps and 2 supervisors during 3 different phone calls I finally had my new truck on my account. SiriusXM know they have the market in their back pocket and could care less about customer service. They aren't even members of the Better Business Bureau I wonder why??? Rant over lol.

I hope Pandora and other online apps destroy them.

I can't figure out how they haven't. The prices are kind of outrageous, and the sound quality for the most part is less than stellar.

I know streaming pandora takes Data, but the sound is much better and content can be curtailed to the user

pandora streaming is way better. I have unlimited with sprint and am streaming pandora non stop while in my truck.

For the monthly subscription price of XM, I can add 3GB more of data to my phone. Sorry, but XM lost me as a customer when they called me and offered me a come back to XM deal then tried to get me to pay another $25 reconnection fee. There's a reason they lose money every month. Don't know how they're still in business with free streaming radio.

I bit on renewing XM when they sent the $26 for 6 months deal and let me write them a check. No way I will ever give them a credit card number after all the horror stories that I have read.

I let the 6 months expire and ignored the mailed notices, which wanted a credit card this time, and the phone messages. They finally shut off the service.

Now I get a past notice bill from them in the mail that says I owe them $25. I don't think so. Done with XM. I'll stick to my IPod and maybe look at Pandora on the new phone.

The Z06 came with a free 1 year trial and has never been renewed.

I refuse their service everytime I buy a new vehicle. I tell the dealer if they want the deal then they better not activate the XM/Sirus service. I renewed for my wife on her car against my better desires, she likes it. I did the $26 for 6 months as well. Kid told me I had to give them a credit card, I refused and said no I don't I can mail a check. He went on and on with me about it, I finally asked to speak with a supervisor who confirmed I was correct other than they charge you a $2 fee if you pay by check now.

No way no how they will ever have my credit card info, the one time I did that they billed me at the full $25 a month rate and it was a nightmare to get those charges reversed off. I also don't get the hate mail and how they word their renewal notifications, they make it sound like you owe them money when you renew and if you don't renew they are going to take action against you.

Personally they are a shitty company, I hope they fail in a burning ball of flame that is as bright as a comet entering our atmosphere.

Want free XM? I hear tell that if you disconnect the XM antenna while your subscription is active, then call in to cancel. They only send the "kill" signal out for up to 6 months before they give up. At month 7 or 8, plug your antenna back in and enjoy your free lifetime of XM ;)

I don't understand all of the hate towards XM. I've had XM in my cars since 2006 and have never had a problem with them. I have cancelled service, transferred service, renewed service and such and each time the people were friendly and did just what I wanted them to. Yes, when I wanted to cancel, they tried to entice me to stay by giving lower rates and what not but nothing to complain about. I even got my excess payments refunded without issue (cancelled before my expiration date).

The only thing I don't like is that you have to "cancel" at the end of each term to get the good rates again.

That used to be the case, nowadays if it is out of the stream for a certain amount of time it deactivates and you have to do a refresh to get a legit subscription running again... closing that loophole

I only use them for the data for the nav traffic and the weather data. I tried to call and cancel the music portion of my subscription and I fought and fought the guy for 10 mins that I didn't listen to it for 6 months so why pay even the discounted rate, finally hung up and had to call in again and the woman I talked to never gave me any grief just did exactly what I wanted. I swear it is easier to shovel a foot of snow with a dinner fork than it is trying to cancel XM service.
