I posted a question that i was able to answer, your truck is a v6 which is why it calls for 5w30. also i would be pissed if someone made that much of a mess changing my oil.

So, i went back today and they made a note of the whole mess, and are going to take it in later to cleanup the oil they got everywhere and replace the bolt on the skid plate they left out. I already have a apt. booked with the dealer the truck was originally purchased from, and they said all recall work is up to date but will look at the leaking line when i bring it in.

 

The ONLY reason this truck even went to a dealer was to get my free oil and be on my way, i do all my own work on my cars and now that i know they cant do a ****ing oil change, i am never bringing or buying a car there again.

 

I agree its dirty as hell and i too am shocked by the amount of rust on the vehicle already. I got it in the winter so i have not had a chance to clean stuff up in there yet. I already bought some rubber frame spray for the places the crappy GM coating is flaking off. I will also probably cover alot of stuff in grease to prevent rust, they salt and sand like crazy up here so you pretty much just have to accept the rust and do your best to prevent it. I dont plan on having this truck forever anyway so when it turns into a rust bucket it wont be my problem to deal with.

 

Yet another post showing why you should never trust your dealer and check the work they claim to have done! Just makes me wonder how many poor suckers they take advantage of and are stealing from.

My dealer service center did the same thing. They spilled oil everywhere in the engine bay and a half-assed clean-up job. I skipped the last two free oil changes. If I change the oil myself at least I know it's done right.

New transmission cooler lines were 90 bucks, both of the lines come together as one part which i guess is good as i wont have to worry about the other line failing since the first one did.

 

Would have been covered under warranty up to 36k miles or something like that, but because i have 50k i am out of that range of the warranty and they wont cover it. Unless some special dealer tools are needed will be dropping off at trusted friend who is a mechanic to install for me.

How does these lines connect at the engine block?

Well I was a tech for 7 years, 6 years at Mercedes Benz, working at MB taught me a lot esp... AMG cars v12's bi-turbo's, superchargers, complex dynamic seats, ABC hydraulic suspension, & CANBUS systems- (high/low level signals) the technology I worked on was light years ahead of what is currently available at GM, can you image 10 years later!!! GM is just now getting some of the tech that's been available.

 

To me GM products are like Legos, friends come over to the house and like are you are crazy would you do that to a brand new truck..... :ninja:, but I prefer the simple machines less failure, a quality product over its useful life time, that's less failure prone. When I see a GM owner, I see a smart costumer, esp... the lower cost of ownership.

 

With that said, there are few good techs, hence few (I always got stuck with warranty BS work, rattles, suspension noise's) as they don't make money b/c they care to take their time and not make a mess (finger prints on the head liner is a no no) / or want to do a quality job, the first 4 years I flagged 42.5 hours a week management told me increase my hours or they would let me go, I told them to F off (it went against my moral believes of just doing a good job and not screwing over the customer). well I managed to survive 2 more years. I have had enough sense to move on, now I work on stuff at a personal level and for close friends only. On the flip side I worked for a very high line local dealer, everyone here knows their name, sadly I worked with messy crooks everyday. I will admit I am not perfect I did make mistakes along the way but I learned from them.

 

I have seen lots of auteurs work on their own stuff, mostly to save money, along the way they tell themselves they can do it better work, few can. I always volunteered for the annual MB club to come in the shop and work on their own cars, the guys on the forums (yes, that applies to all of us on here) You could see in 5 minutes all the mistakes/safety issues, even when changing out brake rotors. I have a very advanced level of training for automotive gas/diesel and even became a self taught HP tuners user to learn more about engines vs software, help me diagnose better, to know what the ECM wants to see is very helpful.

 

Sorry you had a bad experience, I know the feeling all too well. When I take my GMC truck in and I get treated like crap. Good thing is nobody can get anything by me, the dealer respects me but they also hate me as well. Can't BS me on anything automotive related.

 

Lastly, larger GM dealers have specific line workers, meaning they focus only specific tasks, Interior/trim, powertrain, HVAC, or brakes/suspension. so your vehicle maybe passed around by a lot of techs for a few complaints or repairs and it only takes 1 bad apple to ruin your experience (I was bumper to bumper tech, it came to me, I worked on every issue)

 

some advice, it doesn't take long for a customer to find out if their service advisor is full of it (if you don't like your current one, ask for another), then once you have a good advisor ask him for the his best tech to work on something, he will only know 1-2 techs.... trust me. The better techs will more likely be at the Cadillac dealers for obvious reasons.

BUYER BEWARE.
My research shows GM has had this problem on the older models as well and have yet to fit it! I have a 2016 Tahoe, with transmission line seeping at the crimp. My mileage was out of warranty at 40,000 but still had time 1 month left of the warranty time. I call GM to see if they would honor this because why would a crimped transmission line at the front where the radiator is seep fluid unless it was a bad crimp. After numerous calls to GM and they were claiming to see what they could do, by playing games and not calling back, and then when they did just to say it was escalated to management. A month later they are coming back stating they will not offer any assistance for item.Beware buying GM, I have owned GM all my life and have purchased several large SUV vehicles and never had this lousy customer service nor a bad transmission crimp within 40,000 miles.They want $482.00 to repair this faulty crimp that should not have gone bad. No more GM vehicles or Service! BUYER BEWARE!

Look under the truck to find where it's leaking from, and fix the problem?

Have it towed to a garage to have them find and fix it?

Set it on fire?

Drive it off a cliff?

 

You have so many options.

    • That makes sense, and I think you are describing the real product problem. Capturing data is the easy part. If the owner or technician has to manually dig through five minutes of millisecond-level logs, the product has already failed. The device would be at the ECM harness, not at the OBD port, so I agree that data retrieval and event marking need to be thought through carefully. The way I am thinking about the architecture is: The recorder itself should not depend on a phone, app, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or cloud connection to capture the event. It should always keep a local rolling buffer and lock the event locally. A button, phone app, or small cabin device would only act as an event marker. If the driver feels a stumble and presses the button 10–30 seconds later, the pre-buffer has to already contain the useful data. For data retrieval, the practical options would be a sealed service USB lead, Wi-Fi download, or a phone/cabin companion device. I would not expect the owner to remove the ECM-side module or work with raw files directly. The cloud or AI side would be for interpretation, not for capturing the event. The truck may have no connection when the issue happens, so the evidence has to be saved locally first. After that, cloud processing could help decode the data, compare it against baselines, and generate a readable report. For the first version, I would keep the automatic triggers conservative and objective: driver event marker bus-off error passive voltage drop / brownout device reset FIFO or queue overflow a normally periodic message disappearing side-to-side communication mismatch, if the topology supports that For “learning normal,” I agree with your point, but I would not want to overclaim it as automatic root-cause diagnosis at first. A realistic first step would be learned baseline comparison for that specific vehicle and operating condition. For example, a value would only be compared against similar conditions: RPM range load / MAP throttle position gear / vehicle speed coolant and oil temperature battery voltage AFM/DFM state, if decoded and validated Then the report could flag things like: this periodic message disappeared compared with its normal timing this value deviated from this vehicle’s normal range under similar conditions the same abnormal pattern repeated after the same type of event the anomaly occurred together with voltage, oil-pressure, misfire, or communication changes But I would still call that “abnormal pattern detected,” not “replace this part,” unless there is enough validated repair data behind it. So the intended product would not be “here is a huge log.” It would need to be an event package: what triggered the capture how much pre/post data was preserved what changed before and after the event whether the device itself reset, overflowed, or saw a bus error selected graphs around the event raw data only as supporting evidence From your perspective, what would make this kind of report useful instead of just another datalog? For example: What are the top 5 parameters or events you would want highlighted first? Would you trust a learned baseline for that specific vehicle, or would you prefer fixed thresholds? How much false-positive flagging would be acceptable before you stopped looking at the reports? What would a one-page report need to show for an independent shop to take it seriously? For misfire, AFM/DFM, oil pressure, or U-code complaints, what would you want the tool to flag automatically?
