2016 Sierra Front Tag Frame Removal

Whats up fellas! Just got my new CC All Terrain home from Laura GMC and I want to ditch the front tag frame. I know Illinois is a front tag state which is why they install them, or order them with them on.

The problem is, on the 16, they seem to be riveted on and has holes through the bumper. This is very upsetting since the 14 and 15 just had a removable filler panel if you needed a tag or not. Have any of you other 2016 Laura GMC customers addressed this problem yet?

I literally just got home with the truck, so i'll be able to dive into this a little more tomorrow morning. Was just hoping one of you guys had a jump on me.

My 16 Silverado was also riveted on. I cut the flared end on the back side with a pair of flush cut pliers and pulled the rivet out the front. You can also drill them out with a small bit. I plan to fill the holes in the plastic with some of the trim panel plastic push through "plugs" eventually. I was very diassapointed the tag plate was installed this way but since it's removed it is hardly noticeable.

Thanks for the heads up. I wasn't sure if the Silverado was the same. On the Sierra, it looks like the part that the frame is attached to is a separate piece from the main bumper. I wonder if that piece is available and if so how outrageous the price tag is.

Had my body shop take off mine on my 16. Those things are in good.

Actually the tag frames are not installed from the factory, they are in the truck. It is up to the PDI'ing dealer to install them if they choose. I live in Oklahoma and my dealer got my truck from Texas, my dealer told me they would PDI the truck but the dealer in TX PDI the truck as soon as it came off of the transport truck so I have 3 holes in my front end because it seems the idiot who put the tag frame on messed up.

I feel all of your pain. After living in ca and TX the front licence plates are so ugly I'm glad I live in fl with no front license plate. Makes vehicles look so much better

This is the first vehicle I have ever owned with a front plate and Ive lived in IL my whole life. First time I was stuck with it because as stated the dealer feels the need to add them right away. Hate the way it looks but i dont want holes in the bumper or front end that will look worse. I've never been ticketed for it either so I guess people who get hassled are doing other things to draw attention to themselves..lol

I'm gonna check with the dealer tomorrow and see if the part that the frame attaches to is a separate piece from the bumper. If it is and is not 2 or 300 bucks, then i'm gonna buy one. That or i'll consult a good body shop about filling them and repainting. Its ridiculous that they don't give you a choice in this matter.

Well, I talked to the dealer today about replacing the part of the bumper that the frame attaches to. It is a separate piece and he told me there were 3 available. The part number for the one he ordered me was 23243493 and it was 163.00 bucks.

I found it cheaper online once he found the part number for me but since I plan to just let them install it, I just ordered it through them. I was striking out all night trying to find the part, but since its a 2016, I wasn't finding to many places that were listing 2016 parts yet.

Hope this helps out other 2016 Sierra owners that are as picky as me.
