2 Mods killed my mpg?

Open up your flapper valve and test for a few days to see if mpg changes. Will help narrow out the flapper as a culprit or not.

Best and final way to really check, is fill up to full, when pump clicks. Reset trip miles. Drive your daily routine, fill up again next morning, now divide your trip miles by gallons you pumped and that will be your average mpg and compare it to the screen average mpg.

I think this is going to be what I do. Im also going to try to test this with the flapper open. I haven't gotten under it to take a loot but I also thought maybe they put it on backwards?

Was the flapper installed in the correct direction?

Yes I double checked that :/

It might just take awhile to bounce back. Im going to do the gas fill test

Why did you have flapper installed ahead of muffler? Have to believe GM engineers positioned the valve after the muffler for a reason. I'd have to say you've created a restriction that has hurt efficiency.

Because most likely he did what I did and replaced the muffler with a single in/dual out muffler so instead of buying a 2nd flapper valve for both tail pipes he just had it put in front of the muffler.

mine is a single in single out but are you getting chopper and drone with your set up?

I believe the ones that moved the flapper valve were the ones that put in a dual out muffler so really you had no need to move the flapper valve then if you have a single in/single out muffler. And yes I do have the V4 drone because I don't have the flapper valve at all anymore. I'd rather just deactivate AFM if I wanted to get rid of it, but it doesn't bother me.

If you read what I said, I didn't move it, I don't have the valve at all. I'm saying the reason someone would move the valve to before the muffler is if you replaced it with a single in/dual out muffler. So you had no reason to move the valve since you have a single in/single out muffler which is how the stock muffler is.

This made it seem like "I did what you did" and put it in front of the muffler....

I moved the valve because another member here did the same and claimed to have no drone after it.

What is "drone"? I would return to stock and see if that improves your mpg. I would also be careful about doing something simply because of one other member's success. You will often see in this forum where two members have apparently done the same modification and had different results. You don't know all of the variables that went into one individuals results.

Drone would be hearing the hum of exhaust while driving. I also have a pretty heavy chopper sound now that I changed out to a 3" pipe. Might do the range disable now to get rid of the chopper. I'm going to give it a couple weeks and see if the mpg comes back up. It could have just dropped drastically from speeding around and testing it. Easier to plummet with mpg readings than it is to rise lol

I am guessing that you have the 4.3 V6. After owning a truck with a 5.3 V8, I certainly notice the difference in sound!

No I have the 5.3 and that's what I was sayin I DO notice the change in sound which sucks. I'm considering installing a J pipe to mimic the Borla

I personally like the subtle rumble sound of the stock 5.3 when standing outside next to the truck. My 4.3 annoys me when idling with windows open but sounds fine while driving!
