Just picked up my 2016 SD Ultimate a few weeks ago with the 22s (silver with black inserts), white frost tricoat paint and 6.2L....It rides great to me compare to my 2008 SD with 20s. I have added the clear bra to the front, powertrax pro Mx bed cover and added subwoofer under the rear seat. It rides great, holds all my cargo, is protected upfront and sounds great with the bose and sub combo. Super happy with the truck.

Sharp truck.

huricanoday, I along with a car audio installer friend installed a jl audio 13tw5 sub with a jl audio 500/1 amp and an lc2i audio control module for signals. Also added a bass knob on the edge of the map holder on driver side of center console. Purchased my box from subthump.com and had it designed for the passenger side. It fits really well. Bass is tight as I like songs that tend to have a good amount of bass drums.

Good looking truck! +1 on the clear bra, it's a great investment and I'm loving mine so far. Not to hijack this thread but I'd love to see your sub box, I've bought all my previous boxes from subthump, they do great work. Will add one to my 16 soon...

As much as I enjoyed the 6.2 in my 2015 sierra, I ordered this one with the 5.3L.

Doesn't snarl as nice when doing a cold start and doesn't sound as nice when accelerating, but when running down the road at 75 mph I can't tell the difference.

If I was doing it again, I'd get it on 18" wheels as well, for the taller sidewall.

Curious any other differences you may have noticed? Just test drove a '16 5.3/8 spd & maybe because it was so quiet, it seemed or felt sluggish? Granted it is brand new & am going off of a 2013 6.2L 6 spd.

What sort of fuel mileage are you seeing? I know the exhaust can be opened up some on the 5.3 to sound better, just kind of on the fence now. Any info appreciated & sorry to hi jack the ops thread.

tallspawn, Here are a couple of pics of the subthump box install on the passenger side. Only item not just right is that the indentation of the back seat in the middle is not built into the box however with a wood box that would be fairly difficult to do and keep the box from taking up more space under the seat.

The 2015 was a DC 4wd Z71 6.2/8 speed - so 3.23's, heated and cooled, navi. This one is CC 4wd std box, NHT so 3.42's and no Z71, and the 16 seats are vented (cooled no longer available).

Fuel mileage is significantly affected by how they are being driven,

That said it's a Cdn truck. so fuel economy meter distances are different. Mileages below are USMPG.

Best 30 miles: 36.5 mpg (this was very unusual)

Last 30 frequently reach mid 20's

Tank averages when a mix of mostly local 2 lane, mixed with some city and freeway are around 20.

Towing v-nose utility across country on interstate mostly 70-75 mph - 8 to 10 tank averages.

Lifetime 11,500 miles, 14 mpg. (about 4200 or so miles was towing as above)

Daily driver duty mileage was slightly less with the 6.2/8sp/3.23, but clearly the $/mile was more with the fuel cost difference.

Didn't do enough long distance towing with the 6.2, to get a good handle on mileage, but neither of them would hold top gear when towing interstate.

14MPG does not sound all that great my F-150 runs 17.2-17.7 around town, but only picks up less than 1mpg on the road at 70-75 mph.what do you think the denali with the 5.3 and the 6.2 engines get at 70-75 mph?

70-75 w/6.2 and 8spd is around 18mpg depending on how hilly the ride is.

My lifetime is around 17mpg and change, but I often hit 20+mpg on the last 50 mile readings.

I had this same debate when I bought my 15.

I drove all combos. Decided the 22's were too rough, even after having 24's on my 08 Tahoe, and the 5.3 was too slow, even though I liked it in my Tahoe.

I went with the 6.2 on 20's and I love it.

I get 20 - 21 mpg below 75 and if at 75 -80 its around 18.5 - 20. I'm in FL and my only hills are bridges. This is all with the 6.2 and no towing.

I am debating on going to the 20's, I really love the look of the 22's, but I am thinking I would enjoy the ride a bit more with the 20's.

This is pretty accurate - my truck is CC short bed 6.2 10,000 miles on it, 4x4, leveled 2" front still w/ 1.25" rake roughly, no lower chin spoiler, solid tonneau cover in place - I get 19.5-22 if on cruise no higher than 75 - @ 72mph you're going to be over 20mpg avg for sure.

80 mph & hills KILL the gas mileage on these trucks - I'm sure my small level & no chin spoiler aren't helping, but doubt they hurt very much I can't tell a difference if anything my avg mpg has improved since doing those mods since the truck is more broken in.

I do think heavy ass tires & a more aggressive lift (say once you get into the 3-4" and up territory) will also kill mpg's - tires especially if you drive shorter distances, traffice/city etc

When I go through upstate NY for work from MA I start losing MPG's due to the mountainous terrain

My f-150 has been falling off lately. I had the code reader checked and it kicked out a catalysts efficiency low bank 2 which could be a vacuum leak or a defective catalyst. New truck looking better and better. Looking at a black Denali standard bed and a f-150 black King Ranch with a 6 1/2' bed. If the ford had a V8 instead of the 3.5 turbo it would probably be in my garage by now ??

    • Hello hello looking forward to expanding my knowledge of the 2026 2500 HD that I just bought.   Truck has 3500 miles on it four-wheel-drive crew cab and I’m about to put a 6 1/2 inch BDS lift on it 18 x 10 -25 offset with 37’s   Already have the wheels and tires just waiting on the lift install in about three weeks   Question what surprises am I not gonna be happy with?  I’m not new to lifted trucks so I know that acceleration towing gas mileage all that is affected..   Question is those of you that have this truck this powertrain with a 10 speed Allison and have done the mods that I’m doing,,, how bad is it? Is that Allison constantly gonna be hunting for the right gear to go into? And what about towing, acceleration, fuel consumption as mentioned?    Lastly how come I can’t find any ring pinion gear set up for these axles and when could I expect to see them?   I apologize if there’s any typos I’m doing speech to text on my iPhone.
    • I've got a 2013 2500 6.0L Flexfuel. Drove the truck earlier today with no issues. Went to run an errand tonight and noticed key fob wouldn't work. Figured battery was dead, so replaced fob batter. Still wasn't working. Grabbed my other set of keys with the other fob and that one wasn't working either. So I manually unlock truck and insert key. Interior lights come on, dashboard lights up, turn key and truck starts. Turn truck off, like a moron, and try starting again. This time no crank, no click, no nothing. Lights still come on and dash lights up, but now I'm getting a service 4wheel drive, service tire monitor, etc. Check voltage on battery and Im showing 12.2v. Throw my battery charger on it and give it 15 mins and try starting again. But still no crank no start. Decide maybe its a bad battery, run to autozone grab a new one and put it in. Same issue. Disconnect battery and let it sit for 15 mins. Try again and still nothing. I had managed to roll the windows down earlier as its a humid night, but now I can't get them to roll up. Power locks are also not working now. Then randomly I try the key again, and it fires right up. Immediately I roll up the windows as we have nothing but rain forecast this week. I shut it back off wait 30 seconds and start up again. Worked a 2nd time. So turn it off, start putting things back together. Try one more time, and back to no crank no start. And now the car alarm starts going off. Had to disconnect battery and leave it that way for the night as I don't think my neighbors would appreciate my alarm going off again tonight. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

    • Hi there.  Long time lurker, first post.    i have read the previous posts regarding the water ingress problem with this emblem.  I bought my 1500 SLT the  summer of 2025 new and after reading the MANY problems with these emblems failing I decided to install one anyways.  As per a YouTube video, I sealed ( or tried to) this sign with silicone sealant around the outer perimeter joint and the holes that were already somewhat sealed on the rear plate of the emblem.  And installed the connector assembly using dielectric grease on the connectors. The installation looked great and worked well for about 4 months……then FAILURE.  Grrrrrr…… I live in the great white north and wash my truck weekly in an automatic car wash  to keep the salt off.  Let me tell you that removing the old, failed emblem is a whole different animal than removing the OEM individual letters without removing the grill assembly. Mainly because the illuminated logo is built differently than the original letters which  you can remove the red surface lettering with a knife or some kind of blade which gives access to the tabs which hold the logo onto the grill. So I had to essentially destroyed the old emblem to remove it. Doing so killed my chance of doing somekind of autopsy on the failed , old logo.  But there was plenty of water inside when I ripped it apart.  Prior to installing the new assembly I tried it with the old harness and it works fine.   Does anyone have any insight as to where the water is getting into this emblem? I intend to seal the new logo with slow curing epoxy this time around using a syringe.  I think this newer emblem may be an updated unit which I hope GM got the vendor to fix. It has an October 2025 date on it.    If this one  fails,  I am just going to revert back to the non-illuminated letters….AFTER PULLING THE GRILL.    Any thoughts on sealing with epoxy would be appreciated. Thx!   Doug
