Is anyone running Timbrens? How is ride when you are not pulling a trailer?

The ride is unaffected on an empty truck. The Timbrens only contact the axle on loading or severe bumps.

 

I'm happy with my purchase. They really help level the truck when hauling a trailer without a weight distributing hitch.

Not Timbruns but I have had SumoSprings on the rear for a year to help with towing. Easy install, works great for me, almost no squat when hitched for towing.

I have a set on my dually pulling a 17k 5th wheel with a 4k pin weight. They work really well when pulling the trailer and have no effect when empty. If we were to pull anything heavy with my wife's 1500 I would install them on it.

Don't mean to bump an old thread, but which ones did you get? I'm interested in these but can only seem to get the 1,000 lb ones in Canada and am wondering if they are enough.

I have SumoSprings part # SSR-209-40. I can't remember the details but 1,000 lbs sounds about right. I've been towing a 17' Casita, tongue weight 450 lbs, haven't needed a weight distribution hitch and the ride and handling has been great; have towed the trailer across the US and back and from Florida to Canada and back and it's all been good. Later this year I'll be towing a 21' Escape, tongue weight projected at 500 lbs, and I expect things to be just as good. The SumoSprings sit about 1/2 inch up from engaging when the truck is unloaded so the normal ride is unaffected. They do engage when the truck is loaded or when the trailer is hitched so at that point minimal squat, maybe 3/4 of an inch, and the ride is improved.

 

Depending on what you are towing the SumoSprings may or may not be adequate. I do not have the max tow package that you do so you already have more spring capacity than I do. Before I got the GMC I had regular SuperSprings on a Nissan Frontier that I used for several years to tow the Casita and they worked extremely well. Depending on how they are installed and set up SuperSprings may raise the rear of the truck slightly and have an effect on the unloaded ride characteristics but they work very well for heavy towing applications or towing with a lighter vehicle like the Frontier. For the GMC I haven't needed the extra capacity and the SumoSprings have worked out fine for me.
