Just got Android Auto Installed - Question

There is no way to make other things project on the truck screen... like weather forecast, radar, restaurants, etc? It's just for Navi and basic phone uses?

The whole point of Android auto and Apple carplay is to minimize the time your are eyes off of road. So, no they don't give you a lot of options to see stuff besides nav and music. I don't know how well it works, but you should be able to ask how the weather is and it might tell you...

Yes, it will tell you the forecast ... just doesn't display on the screen. I see no need to hook it up unless I need Navi ( since I don't have factory Navi) otherwise it is unless... Intel link already does the other stuff.

The on screen stuff is pretty basic but you can add AA compatible apps (which I think will grow now that it's going in more cars). If you hit the mic or long press the voice button on the steering wheel you can use Google now to ask lots of things and handle text/phone calls. AA voice control works better and faster than the factory one does too...

but you can long press for google even when the phone is not hooked up ( USB) to AA. You just won't get anything projected on the screen. It's look like the only value of AA is to project the NAVI for those that don't have this factory. Otherwise, Basic Intel link functions already shows me text, calls, etc, etc..

Yeah, if you're not using it for streaming music from one of the services or maps then there's not a huge benefit. I'm hoping they make Waze AA compatible someday, Google owns it so fingers crossed!

So I was going to do the IO5\IO6 swap, is this a cheaper way to get nav? What is the part to add android play?

Me too. After running Google Maps for awhile this week in my new truck, I realized how much it sucks compared to Waze.

Google maps in AA is way better than Apple maps on carplay. Waze may even have a chance on AA, I doubt it ever will see carplay..

If waze does come to AA I may go back to an Android phone, I would be happy if Apple let Google maps on Carplay but I doubt that will ever happen..

I'm happy with Google Maps at the moment but would prefer Waze.

I have had my 2016 Sierra for one month. Had dealer add Android Auto the other day but I really had no luck getting the apps on my phone to show up on the screen in the dash. Not even Pandora. So I turned it off on the vehicle settings and am using the normal GM interface with Bluetooth. I know I need the data cable plugged into USB. I doubt it matters which USB? I really can't find any support or information for newbies to figure it out?

I also put my music on a USB with three directories for genre.

The USB plays but it does not seem like I can choose a directory to play from?

Anyone got some of this figured out?

Thanks.
