Black truck......detailing

Scratches.....how do you buff them out I just used a meguiars swirl remover and a wizards polish, neither of them seemed to do the trick still lots of scratches. I do think want to use an aggressive Compoud on a truck with 5k miles but it bugs the shit out of me...

You're looking at machine polishing. No way around it, but I hope that doesn't scare you either.

I haven't tried adams yet I tried some other stuff first. Looks like I'll just do it

First, and foremost - learn proper washing techniques. 5k miles should not be all swirled up. I use a lot of Adam's products and they work great. Once you get it properly corrected, wash it with care. There's tons of threads online about washing. It sounds different, but detailing for a few years on the side I can tell a huge difference. 2 bucket wash method, top first then bottom, straight passes - nothing circular, sheet rinsing, waffle weave towel/blow drying, etc...

Oh yeah, no automatic car washes! Those things destroy paint. My dealer has free car washes for life, but you won't find me in there once.

Any scratches - I have the local body shop buff / wax it. YES they do Black trucks , no problems . they do custom paint on street rods . I just wash / spray wax between wax jobs .

New vehicles, immediately dawn wash, clay, wash again then use your favorite polish, (wax if you like) then sealant.

 

Already doing the two bucket so good...do the above but after clay and wash get a decent polisher and get a good swirl and scratch remover Adams, Chemical Guys etc...

 

Dealer thought I was crazy when I told them not to the wash the truck for me when I come to pick up or I wouldn't taking delivery.

I think I paid $50.00 x 3 times a year, but I do his landscape - shop / home . we both get good deals.

X2...been a detailer for 40 years and two bucket wash is a must! Always straight when washing/waxing...NEVER circle anything.

 

I use Adams "Americana" wax for my Black 2015 GMC and like glass... I also use it on my Black 67 Nova SS that is Lacquer from the 70's and works really well with no scratches. Worth every penny!!! Tip...don't put the lid on very tight...real hard to remove sometimes. Do one panel at a time then wipe off and so on.

$50 for a "buff" job is dirt cheap. For full paint correction, I am on the cheap side and usually charge between 100-200. The next time you wash and clay, look at the paint under some fluorescent lights for swirls.

Optimum poliseal is a good product also. It cleans the paint, can remove swirl marks and seals the paint. It is best to use it with a buffer.
