Hi, I'm about to purchase a 2016 Silverado LTZ Z71 with 5.3.. I assumed that all of them now were flex fuel capable but I was on the dealers site today and they have a filter for flex fuel or gas and my truck isn't listed under the flex fuel trucks...

original info removed not accurate.

from the factory flex fuel =

4.3 is standard

5.3 is optional (with or without)

6.2 not available

easiest way to tell is what Fondupot stated, check the gas cap.

guys on here have added it to their 6.2's, so I assume its just as easy to add it to the 5.3.

  • sensor/s
  • fuel lines
  • ECM reprogram

not sure what else is needed

No. It became an option in 2015. If you want to know for sure, check for a yellow gas cap. That means it can run E85.

Black gas caps are not E85 compatible trucks.

My 2015 Z51 5.3 was a flex fuel and had a yellow gas cap, this new 2016 SLT has a black gas cap and does not say flex fuel anywhere.

Really, can't get an 8 speed and Flex? I don't get it. They have the technology already, the sensor maybe costs gm $10 and it gives you the ability to have 25 more hp and they don't put it in???

If I have the dealer install it and reprogram the ECM would my warranty still be ok?

While the dealer can add the sensor, they cant reprogram the ECM to turn on the flex fuel tables (if that is required). Dealer are not able to change the programming in the modules with anything other than what that module was programmed with for that VIN when it left the factory or per what GM says that module should show now with any updates.
