Anyone use tailgate support bars?

Timmer, what do you want to use them for? It looks like they are one solid piece that you have to remove to close the gate, correct?

Correct. The bars are only used to support the tailgate (they take the load off of the cables) when using ramps to load/unload motorcycles, ATVs, etc from the bed of the truck.

That's what I thought. That's one reason why I'm experimenting with these: http://sinisterdiesel.com/i-20991687-merchant-automotive-tailgate-straps-for-2007-5-gm-trucks.html

These straps would just replace the cables and you can still close the tailgate.

I'm trying to see if I can modify one to "level" the tailgate instead of having it angle up from the bed.

Those look perfect! Are you saying they don't level the tailgate as is, though? I'm looking at replacing the cables so I don't have to worry about them snapping as I ride my motorcycle into the bed.

These replace the OEM cables and are exactly the same length. my tailgate sits too high when compared to the flat bed. installing these straps, the tailgate was exactly the same. I want to make a set about 1/2" longer so that the tailgate is a little bit lower.

Check this out. I was discussing this problem in another topic, check out these parts I found in post #25:

Luckily my tailgate is level and flat with the bed in my truck, so I won't need that extender, but I'll try the straps.

Thanks!
