I will repost the original email some people have been getting. It looks like several notable law firms have banded together to take this issue on. I called and spoke to the people involved and this is the real deal.

If you are fed up with the terrible headlights on your '14 or '15 model pickup, I encourage you to call or email these people. You have nothing to lose, and may actually force GM's hand in fixing this dangerous problem.

They need your support. The more of us then join, the stronger the case!

Here is the original email some people have been getting:

Thank you for our interest in joining the class action lawsuit against General Motors concerning the poor headlight performance on the 2014 – 2015 model GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks.

We appreciate your patience while we performed our due diligence in preparing this case. At this point we are ready to move forward with the suit!

We hope you are still interested in joining the class action. If so, you will need to contact the attorney in charge of client intake to get signed up. You can call or email to get enrolled.

Call 214-443-0800 and ask for Rosi or Leon. Tell them it is regarding the GMC headlight class action. You can also email your name and phone number to [email protected] . Use the subject line "GMC Headlights Class Action" . Someone will get with you promptly to complete the required intake form.

There is NO financial obligation to join the suit, and you may opt out at any time.

Thank you again for joining the class action to have General Motors fix these dangerous trucks!

Just buy some HIDs and don't worry about it

I bought my kit before I bought the truck, don't think I even drove at night with the factory headlights in...

For what these trucks cost, they should have came with something better than $10 halogen bulbs!

Maybe we should test drive vehicles at night. Dangerous problem? Really? You would think that they must have met some DOT standard...

I wish us Silverado owners were included. Can't imagine how bad you GMC owners have it. Probably getting rid of my 2015 LTZ because of the headlights. I've modded cars my whole life. I have no desire to put in custom HIDs with no reliability that aren't covered through factory warranty. Pricing out comparable 2017 LTZ Z71 now. I did put 20K miles on my '15 since September. Can't say I didn't give it a shot to live with the shitty lights. I emailed Chevy and they told me to take it to a dealer. My reply to Chevy was they knew the lights sucked, that's why they changed them in 2016...

Am I the only one on this board that hasn't had a problem with headlights?

The 2014-15 Silverado headlights are considerably better than the 2014-15 GMC headlights. I will say that my 2014 Silverado was still worse than the 2013 2500HD that I'm driving now. I noticed the first time I drove at night that the 2014 lights were definitely worse than the 2011 I traded. This is just one of many design issues with these trucks that should have been ironed out before production.

Have you driven a '14 - '15 in a rural area at night? Dangerous is the best description for it. Add in a little rain or fog and you should just stay home.

My father traded his '14 Sierra in yesterday for a competing brand because he couldn't drive his truck at night (he's 68). And to your point, after the fiasco with these headlights, I will NEVER purchase another vehicle without test driving one after dark.

The DOT standard was written in the 70's, and hasn't been updated since. It's a VERY low bar. It would have to be for these headlights to pass...

If they are truly a hazard and/or caused accidents and deaths NHTSA should be the way to go if the goal is to get a Government mandated recall forcing the manufacturer to correct and retrofit the vehicles to eliminate that hazard. The worst headlights other than the old brass ones with a candle had to have been on the 3rd gen Plymouth minivans and nothing was ever done about that, so don't get your hopes up for a recall/retrofit.

Here's my 2 cents as far as class action suits - --- Rest assured that the legal firm(s) involved stand to collect a hefty settlement for their services. But I wouldn't get your hopes too high for a retrofit or a substantial cut of any cash payout in the final negotiated settlement........owners might get a coupon for extra bucks off in trade against a new vehicle, a certificate for a few free oil changes, a flashlight to tape to the dashboard, etc

Yet you bought a 2015 knowing the headlights suck? This forum alerted me to this potential issue in '14 when I was first considering to replace my old truck. This is one of the reasons that I waited for the 2016's. Like Thomcat said, class action lawsuits don't help anyone but the stinking lawyers.

I bought my '15 in November of 2014. I needed a new truck and was apprehensive of the aluminum Fords. There was no way to know at the time the '16s would have updated headlights. I didn't have the luxury of waiting, and I thought they couldn't be that bad. I was wrong.

Must be nice being perfect. You have a '16, so why does this even concern you? Just another lawyer hater?

Again, you have a '16. Not your concern. Enjoy you HID's.

Not too crazy about expensive HIDs but they seem to work well enough under most conditions, but adequate lighting in any vehicle is a concern even. Even the '16 lighting is inadequate in unlit wooded rural areas ---had to resort to a sports bar mounted with Luxeon LED off road lights to keep from smashing into four legged road rats.

Yes, it is. This is an open forum, I can comment on what I want. Pretty much when its this type of nonsense. I will enjoy my HID's-they're great.

    • same here , i have a 2020 first gen and the cost to repair these engines far excedes replacement
    • But Grumpy I did show several subdivisions that had homes starting in the 170K range. If you bought a Townhouse or Condo you could go cheaper. Same with a car 3000 dollars in the 70s translates to around 20K today. There are several models at that price. You actually get more for the money. In the 70s I drove a 3000$ car bought a 28K home and made 4.50 per hour. Thank goodness for overtime. Today I could buy a 170K house drive a 20K car and make 25 dollars an hour operating the same machine today. The difference the house, car, machine would be better and have AC. And I wouldn’t be taxed on overtime. And statistically your wife works too. Easing the burden. I thought we agreed to disagree. I brought receipts earlier, showing examples. I think you’re more stubborn than me. I was done with this debate.
    • I’m definitely interested to hear the end result here.
    • My 2025 Silverado 1500 had to receive a brand-new engine (long block) under warranty last month at only around 16,500 miles. Before the replacement, the truck repeatedly displayed "Engine Oil Level Low" warnings, even though the Oil Life Monitor still showed around 50% remaining after about 6,000 miles since my last oil change. After seeing the warning several times, I checked the dipstick with the engine cold, and the oil level was completely normal. The next day, the message escalated to "Add Engine Oil." At first, I assumed it was just a faulty oil level sensor, so I brought the truck to the dealership. After inspecting the engine, they found internal cylinder wall scoring and ultimately replaced the entire long block under warranty. Before this happened, I was planning to install a 4-inch lift and suspension upgrade on my truck. After needing a new engine at just 16,500 miles, I honestly don't see the point anymore. I also contacted GM to ask whether my vehicle qualified for a buyback, but I was informed that it does not at this time. Anyway, this experience has left me with serious concerns about the long-term reliability of this engine. I sincerely hope NHTSA expands the current investigation or recall to include 2025 model and performs a thorough inspection of affected vehicles. My biggest concern is that these engines may fail shortly after the powertrain warranty expires. If GM truly stands behind this engine, then at the very least, please consider extending the powertrain warranty to 10 years for affected owners. That would go a long way toward restoring customer confidence.
    • Without exception but then I'm the odd duck, right? I know what goes into that test, how it is calculated and thus how to beat it. But EPA values are often not beaten by the general public and the government has in past years adjusted the means and methods to come to those values to more closely approximate "Joe Average".    The only real trick to beating that EPA average is don't drive like "Joe Average".    It's the same method you used to profit from "Economic Migration" and in doing so beat the 'stats'. But you, like me, are not "Joe Average".     The thing you don't seem to grasp is this "Purchasing Power Index" isn't forward looking. It doesn't predict what it going to be but looks backward and states what it was. They are not telling us what the THINK, they are telling us what they MEASURED. Example:    Wife says "I'm going to lose 40 pounds by Christmas". May she does, maybe she doesn't but the doctors office who weighed her when she made that statement and again at Christmas only REPORTS what the RESULT was. You and I can banter about what was possible and what aunt Tilly did till the cows come home but the result is the result. Arguing otherwise is.....irrational. That's all I'm saying. This isn't about:      What you are calling a 'Statistic' is a RESULT not a CALCUATION and as a result the RULE. Like gravity as a rule, it can not be broken.
