Help me choose between these 2 trucks

At 2-4 yrs old, yes. At 10 yrs people are buying a deal. So that comes down to planned trade window & location.

South of I40 would guess 2wd may have fair long term market value.

For reference, ran some numbers on trading a 2013 SLE 4wd, leather seats, sliding rear window, 20" wheels, 6.2L & 16,000 miles for a 2016 here in IL.

Received bottom of the barrel wholesale. My truck has been garaged, no rust anywhere, not a dent or ding in it. Not complaining with the offer, it is what it is.

My point is in 3 yrs the rumored new T2xx will be here & the 2016 at that point may have similar numbers for trade ins.

2013 anything will take a hit in resell because it is old body style design now. But no it would not be leaps and bound just easier to sell all around.

Problem solved - buy both.

You live in a place where you don't get adverse weather and you don't offroad. The premium plus package seems like a no brainer to me. If you lived somewhere that expected you to still work when it snowed (let alone dusted) then maybe 4wd would be needed.

keep searching for a truck that has all option that both of those trucks have! your spending all that money might as well not have any regrets. IMO

Well I ignored almost everyone's advice and went with the Z71. I looked at KBB trade values of both trucks with 1000 miles on them just for reference, and Truck 2 had a value that was $3000 higher than Truck 1. Yes, I don't need 4wd, but I do think it'll hold its value in the long run so it's a wash to me. The dealer gave me a spray-in liner since I told him I didn't want the OEM side steps, so we made an even trade on those. I think in the end, since I have HP Tuners and know the 6-speed well, that the 8-speed wasn't that big of a pro to me. I think the only thing I'll truely miss with Truck 1 was the sliding rear window, but I'll get over that.

Congratulations! Post a pic when you get a chance.

4wd is never a wash when it isn't used and I always get a chuckle when someone mentions resale value and it holding value better. Of course it will be worth a little more than a 2wd, you paid more for it, it still depreciates the same percentage wise regardless. Unless you are in the north where 4wd is pretty much a must and only what buyers need/buy then in other areas it doesn't. Down here in Texas it is still about 50/50 2wd to 4wd so...

Anyway, to my point; you pay the added maintenance costs, the hit in mpg, added insurance and for something you never use (other than to say you have it and impress people) and in the end you will end up spending more and giving up features.

To each their own but 4wd is becoming more an image buy than a necessity buy (especially down south) and many times at the expense of other features or options one desires.

Hope you enjoy your new truck, I have had nothing but good luck with my '14.

That is not how supply and demand works at all. He made the right choice IMO. That is like saying a Car will devalue the same as a Truck, which is not true. Trucks hold their value better in N America as there is after all a market behind used cars and markets are always driven by supply vs demand.

For comparison since I just looked up mine today in CAD dollars:

2015 GM SIERRA SLE Double Cab 4wd

$35,900 average selling price 26,000 average KM.

MSRP was $48500 and I paid $38500 during truck month.

Truck has basically devalued around $3k which is amazing! why? Because a lot of people want such a build.

*On a side note you will miss that rear window less than you think with dual climate control. At least I did and rarely open my windows now.

Enjoy the new truck. I had a different shopping priority I was looking for a Denali with the 6.2 when they hit with the 20% offers I could not resist. Had a 2014 SLT was a great truck but the 16 is improved. Amazing what has been done here, really sweet rides all the way around even the base models.

There are half dozen places I could (should?) ask this, but can we swap out a solid rear glass for one with a sliding window?
