WeatherTech Bed Liner & Scratches Touch-up

Recommended Posts

Ordered and just received the WeatherTech Bed & Tailgate Liners, but I have some scratches in the bed. Due to the crappy paint, the plastic wheels on my FIL's grill managed to put some scratches in the paint on the tailgate and bed. Looks to me like it's just down to the primer and not the bare metal. I ordered a touch-up kit, but am looking for some input.

Should I just not worry about it and install the liners? Should I fully touch-up the scratches with paint and clear? Just paint? Just clear?

No pics at this time, but I can take some if it will help.

TIA,

Chris

Send weathertech stuff back and just get line-x instead. This is my first truck with it and I love it.

I plan on getting a Peragon cover and, for what I mostly do, I don't really need a spray-on liner that covers everything. I don't haul wood, stone, mulch, etc., just usually stuff to go on vacation.

I don't haul much either but it's nice to have the protection and added value of a spray in liner. Not much price difference from all the weathertech stuff and a line-x. I got mine for $400.

Got'cha. Yeah, I may end up just doing that, but for the time being I'm going to use the WeatherTech stuff and get a Paragon cover.

Any advice on my initial question though?

Bed liners just get dirt and dust under them and sand the paint off of the floor.

So don't bother fixing the paint if your going to use it.

I've even seen the felt type do this.

Ok, so if I'm planning to get a LineX liner in the next year or so, it shouldn't really matter and I shouldn't waste my time touching it up. I'll just focus my touch-up efforts on other nicks.

Thanks.

Honestly, if it's just going to be covered up by the bed mat, you can get away with using nail polish. You can just use the paint you ordered. The clearcoat probably won't be necessary if its going to be covered up and protected by a liner.

I've had line-x on my last 4 trucks. Do not think I'll ever not have it. It holds loose items in place usually, and keeps rust out and looks great.

I agree with others go with spray in liner. So much better. The plastic liners are noisy for starts and water does indeed get trapped underneath. For me I would just be annoyed knowing all that dirt and grime was between the liner and actual bed.

Fine for a work truck I suppose if you are just going to beat on it but I for one am very happy with a spray in liner on my personal / recreation vehicle.

So does salt from Quebec LOL. We got in some ex rentals at work, and we took the bedliner out of a couple of them. There was 3 pounds of salt and solidified salt chunks underneath it (not sure what they did with the truck...) and the undercarriage was filled with it. There was surface rust in multiple spots under the bedliner, paint missing, leaves, sticks, water, all over the place. We've since started pulling all of them out to inspect and boy, the stuff we find underneath!

If you need any accessories, would love to help. We have couple of toys for you at www.eTruckGear.com and offer honest service (with 100 % positive Amazon feedback we try hard to be there for the customer)

Stop by and take a look. Tonno Pro is a nice brand to look at. Not that well known but super quality and low price. We are also Weathertech approved, meaning warranty applies as opposed to purchases on Amazon. We also have Husky or Maxliner. Amp Research, Thule, Warn, Rhino Rack. Will be glad to help.
