my 2016 does not have the sd card slot in the center console like my 2014 did. so my question is, if I replace the usb module in the center console with one with an sd card slot, would the sd card function work on the 2016?

The SD would probably work, but good chance you will lose CarPlay or Android Auto function. The SD card was removed from 16 MY so installing one you most likely will have functional issues

I did it. I used part number 22990883 from the seller below on ebay. Took some doing getting the old one out, and it actually came apart as I took it out, but it went back together fine. Retrofit part is 100% plug-and-play.

Android Auto still works for me. Someone in another thread said he thinks you will lose CarPlay. I can't verify but maybe this weekend a friend with an iPhone can help me verify for you.

so, bgweed, how did you get the usb port out? is the wiring loom long enough, or is it very tight to reconnect the new one? thanks for any help you can provide.

I used a plastic trim tool on the edge closest to the bed of the truck. Once I could get that loose and raised about 1/2", i used the smallest flathead I had (not as small as an eyeglass, just a normal one) to pry up the edge closest to the dash. The edge closer to the dash was the tough one, because there's not much room to get in there. I really thought I was going to crack a bit of plastic but it all came out fine. Once you get the little module loose, you can pull it a couple inches out of its hole before you run out of wire length. The two plugs come out of the module no problem, just make sure to keep hold of them so they don't fall back into the hole before you click them into the new part.

When I removed mine, the module clips came off the module itself, so I just had to fish the thing out. The clips weren't broken so I just clicked them back on the module to keep as a spare.

do you think it is just a really snug fit, or are there some sort of clip(s) on the body of the module that clicks into place to keep it in the hole?

Here's a commented photo. The white clip clicks into the module at the red arrows (2 on each side). Then the assembly clicks into the truck and is held by the tabs shown by the blue arrow (1 on each side).

It's not really overly snug, I just couldn't get the front white tab (blue arrow) pushed "in" to release the tab, so it came loose at the red arrows instead. Then I fished the white clip out of the hole pretty easily.

thanks for your help. I guess I never shared why I would like to replace this. I am getting "static" through the stereo when I use my ipod through the center console, dash ports work just fine. I ordered one online and the one with the sd card is what I received. the truck only has 1700 miles on it, so yes I am still under warranty, but with the luck I had with my 2014, I just do not want to leave my new truck at the dealer 2 to 3 days for and 60 minute fix. just going old school and fixing it myself.

by the way bgweed, why did you replace yours?
