I need help with Wiring. Trying to add Lighting inside and outside

I lurk around here a bit. I have got some great information from this forum. So thank you all for sharing your experiences. On a recent trip someone broke my passenger outside mirror on my
. So that started this whole project. The biggest one yet on this vehicle. So please bear with me as I explain everything. Also please make corrections to anything I write, I am not very good at the terminology used. So here goes...

What I am trying to do?

1. Add LED lighting to the foot well area both in the front and rear seats.

2.
under the running boards and rear bumper.

3. Add LED lighting to each door panel, so it lights up when the
.

What I have access to?

1. The Driver Side knee panel and fuse panels are open.

2. The Junction Box in the
is open.

3. The door Panels are taken off.

4. Side view mirrors are completely disassembled for Fold Motor Repair. So the wires are sticking out of the little hole in the door.

How I would like it to work?

1. The interior lighting will come on with the dome lighting. I would prefer that the foot well does not light up when the truck is on. So when I am driving and I turn on the
only the
comes on. This is only a preference. If it cannot be accomplished I am ok with it.

2. Door panel lights only come on when the door is opened. They should stay turned off if the
. Again this is a preference. I can mount the light at the bottom of the panel so it is not a distraction.

3. Lights under the running boards should only come on when the truck is unlocked and when I turn off the car (Perhaps use it with Aproach and Exit Lighting). They should always stay off if the truck is on. So while I am driving they should never come on.

I am upgrading from DL8 to DL3. The DL3 I got, have no puddle lamps. But it does have the white connector with six wires. I know that Light Blue and Yellow are the ones for folding motor.

{ On a side note... rather than changing and reprogramming the
modules, I am installing timed realys that will Fold And Unfold the Mirrors. }

The way I am thinking to wire this up is as follows:

Tap into
wire. If I understand correctly, there is a brown wire in the X14 Junction Box area. I will run this wire to Relay #1 just to charge or discharge the relay. The relay will then power (from X14 connector) all interior add on lighting, including foot well and door panels. Also it will run power to Relay 2. I am hoping to tap into ‘Ignition On’ wire somewhere that will charge or discharge Relay #2. This relay will be Always Closed (NC) until charged, at which time it will Open (NO) to stop power going to Outside lights.

OR ...

Relay 2 could be charged and discharged with the Approach and
. Then the exterior Lights will only come on when the Approach and
come on.

I hope everything is clear until this point.

My questions:

1. Where is the best place to tap into Ignition on power? I prefer not to open the Steering Column. Is there any wire inside the truck that gets charged when the truck is started? Or would I have to tap in to II position of the key. OR... where is best place to tap into the Appraoch and Exit Circuit.

2. Is there power in the door (hopefully in the white connector) that I can tap into?

3. What is the best place to run the wire to the outside without drilling? I am hoping to utilize a predrilled hole to run the wire. I would prefer not to go thru the Firewall.

4. For the interior lighting, since I am running thru a relay, is there a way for it to have a “Diming to OFF” effect? Not really important.

Any help will greatly be appreciated.

    • Whoever greenlighted the work truck matte black front bumpers on every trim but the AT4X should be fired!  I was hoping that was an AI mistake, but just realized they were on every model of the 2027 Silverado too.     Some parts of the interior do look premium, but the Denali Ultimate dashboard looks like an afterthought.  At least they appear to have lost the microfiber the high end Silverado models showed, but the '27 High Country dash looks better than the Denali.
    • New member here. I am researching a read-first event-recorder concept for late-model GM V8 trucks. This is not a sales post. There is no product link, price, preorder, or mailing list. I am trying to determine whether the underlying problem is real before building anything.   Has your truck ever had a brief problem such as: - rough running or a momentary misfire - an oil-pressure warning or unusual pressure event - reduced power or a brief stall - a U-code or lost-communication problem - a symptom that disappeared before the dealer or independent shop could reproduce it   If so, I would appreciate the following details: - year, model, engine, and mileage - what happened and under what conditions - whether a DTC and useful freeze-frame data were stored - whether the shop was able to reproduce it - what the eventual confirmed repair was, if known - what additional information would have helped the diagnosis   The concept being evaluated is a removable leave-in recorder that continuously retains a rolling window from before and after an event. It would not tune, reflash, clear codes, or change the vehicle calibration.   I am also not claiming that it could predict lifter failure or see every internal ECM variable.   The real question is whether continuous event history would add enough useful evidence beyond freeze frame, GDS2, and existing scan tools — or whether it would simply be another unnecessary gadget.   For owners and technicians, which problem would make something like this genuinely useful: 1. intermittent misfire or AFM/DFM-related behavior 2. oil-pressure events 3. lost communication or electrical faults 4. none of the above Please be blunt. Negative feedback is just as useful as positive feedback.
    • No tears over the SLE and SLT trim levels disappearing but I kind of loathe the "Elevation" name. It's a truck--skip the elegance.   The slab-dashboard design is decidedly different. Almost has a Hummer flavor to it. "Professional Grade" seems to be leaning very white-collar, tech-driven these days moreso than blue-collar, functional design.   The Silverado would be my choice between the two new trucks. Pleased with the engine lineup in both. The GMC is a little "too much" for a truck, IMO, and the Denali borders on ridiculous - but I do know there are buyers for luxury trucks out there. It's just not my speed.

    • - I like the outside but not as much as the Chevrolet.  They ICE'd the EV styling and it works, but I think exterior goes to Chevy on this one.     - SLE and SLT dead = Not.  Surprising.  Fits into the rest of the GMC lineup like this which (aside from Pro) matches the rest of the family.  Elevation, AT4, Denali.     - Interior.  Sophisticated Malaise era.  Why do I say Malaise?  Drawn with a ruler.  Rectangles everywhere.  Looks very premium though.
