Mineral Metalic compared to the onyx black

I have my truck search narrowed down to the sierra 1500 either in Denali or SLT package... I started off being pretty dead set on the the white frost color, but after seeing them in person that Mineral Metallic has grown on me as well... I like the looks of the black one, who doesn't like a black vehicle, but they are soooooo much work keeping them looking clean. Hoping those of you that have the mineral metallic color will give me some feedback on how well they do or dont show dirt...

Well, from someone who owns a black truck, I will tell you I will never ever again buy a black vehicle.. Just when you think you have it perfectly cleaned and detailed, you pull out in the sunshine and BAM!! Bunch of crap you missed lol. And I actually enjoy cleaning/detailing.. But this paint is exhausting.

My camaro is NBM... Navy Blue Metallic... and I swear it's worse than the black trying to keep it clean.. So maybe my question would have been better phrased asking those who have the Mineral Metallic color how hard is it to keep clean?...

Black is a PIA to keep clean am so glad I traded my black 14 AT for the 15 AT in Diamond White. Stays cleaner longer and have only waxed it 4 times in 16 months of ownership compared to 10 times in 13 months. Do not buy black if you value having a clean ride.

so does anyone have experience with the new mineral metallic color... or to new of color to know yet?

It's only been out a month. I doubt there are too many of them out there yet.

I like that color. It seems somewhat similar to the GMT800 pewter but a little bit darker. I have had a pewter truck and in my opinion it is the second best behind white as to hiding scratches and dirt. Nothing is as bad as a dark color like navy or black.

Ocean blue is good at hideing dirt ect as the dark colors go (as long as a good quality wax is on it such as natty poor boy blue) the metallic helps with the illusion. My 08 was black, never again. I like that mineral metallic!

Totally agree.

My S-10 was pewter and I swear it could go for months without a wash - and I live on a dirt road. The mineral metallic does look a little bit darker than pewter, but if I would have seen that color on the lot, I would have bought it in a hot second over my white one, but while I think black is awesome, pretty much any color is better than black for keeping clean.

I knew black was always hard to keep clean, but when I bought my car 20 years ago I didnt think the blue would be an issue.. and my NBM is worse than black... So when I saw this truck I REALLY liked the color, but I became leery of it when I saw Metallic as part of the color description, so I wanted to ask first before finding out the hard way again = )

To me metallic is much more capable of hiding imperfections in paint vs non metallic.

I think it all depends on the color to be honest. I have a metallic red cruze and it doesn't look great after 100k miles

    • There are probably a few threads talking about fuel mileage but this one seemed to fit the stats I have seen based on my typical local driven route but with different outcomes based on different seasons/temperatures. I have a few hundred pounds of items that consistently ride on the truck at all times such as a bak flip cover, rubber bed mat, tools and extra fuel so I would be something over 8100 lb without me in the truck. All these examples are based on a 100 mile round trip to a town plus running around town so maybe 110 to 120 miles in total for a trip. Using regular fuel and I assume it always has some ethanol in it but don't know the percentage they blend in. Also speed wise I am going at 62 mph and non aggressive driving although less speed yet if its crappy winter condition roads. I am going by an initial reset of the computer generated fuel use numbers averaged over a couple of thousand miles or so for each weather/season so they may be more optimistic then actual hand calculated numbers. Basically this is painting a picture of doing the same drive but seasonal conditions and temperature being the major variable to the end result. Oh and although I am in Alberta Canada, I am converting it to miles per US gallon so there is no confusion.    So winter time it gets cold here, no real surprise there and the roads can be clear at times but also often have packed rough snow or are are driving through loose snow ( they do a poor job of plowing the highways ) and yes this includes the extra idle engine time due to trying not to freeze ones butt off. 12.7 mpg is what I was getting during the winter months on average.    Then during the spring when it was around the freezing point and the highways are clear of snow, I was getting around 14.25 mpg.   Summer time, I have been getting around 15.15 on average but certainly some of the trips showed quite a bit better fuel mileage, so much depended on how much or little I had driven around town and number of engine restarts after sitting for a while at each location. But stating a best fuel mileage trip to town pretending that is what the truck gets on average is fooling ones self for sure !.      As I said in a different post, I had driven a 645 mile trip over a couple of days stint to a different destination then these other daily to town examples above, and was done during the summer with nice weather and not bucking a head wind, also keeping at 62 mph and its a rolling landscape type highway drive ( this isn't southern Alberta or Saskatchewan flat lands ) Hand calculated fuel mileage in this case though and it came out to 17.65
