Choosing between SLT and Denali..

Recommended Posts

I want the 6.2 motor and it only comes in the 2 listed platforms... On the GMC build and price page, I have the SLT for 51K and the Denali for 61K...

SLT pros- I found the bench seat in the SLT to be more comfortable than the bucket seats... and the lower price obviously.

But I really really like the cooled seats when I turned the AC on in the Denali... So now I'm kinda hung up on more comfortable bench vs the cooling capability of the bucket seats.

On the SLT I spec'd out it only has the 'preferred package' added.. If I deck the truck out it's only about a 2k price difference, but by not adding anything that changes the bench seat it is a 10k price difference.

I've read that the Denali will hold it's value better/longer, and it has all the bells and whistles... and it is a VERY NICE truck... But that's also a possible con... Im having a difficult time picturing taking the Denali to help my dad cut trees for firewood and stack it in the back... or taking it fishing, or kayaking, hauling motor cycles... Is it too nice of a truck to use as a truck... or do you just baby it untill you get your first scratch and after that you use the truck for whatever you want... = )

So if any of you have advice for me I'd love to hear your thoughts...

both have pros and cons.

Slt has all the bells but is still missing some of the whistles. It is harder and obviously more expensive to mod a Denali ie) if you put on a RC lift on a denali you are jut asking for it. expect to spend premium on all your mods too.

IMO if you plan to drive it stock the denali would be better but if you plan to work on it or mod SLT.

I modded my Camaro up the wazoo... all the bolt-ons, cam, longtube headers, true dual exhaust dumped at the axle, full suspension upgrade...And now it sits in the garage all winter long because it's useless in the snow = )

I got my mod bug out of my system...

My brother just faced that decision and settled on the SLT to get the Max Trailer Pkg. The Denali is a luxury blvd cruiser and not suiting for off-road.

Let it get scratched. If it gets too bad repaint it. It won't break any easier just because it's worth more on the sticker. And, you'll enjoy the extra stuff on the Denali. Trust me.

If $10K isn't an issue your decision is made.

If your looking to trade/sell it in a few years and the value is important The D.

Me, I would leave $10k in my pocket not GM's, still a new truck. :happysad:

If ur buying NEW.. go all out . Why not, you want the bells and whistles.. DENALIS don't hold they're value anymore than an SLT. They're just worth more.

What the hell are you talking about? There is NO difference in mods for an SLT or Denali. They're the same truck mechanically.

I know it's a bit shallow and ridiculous but I sure love the gauge package in the Denali. Not worth 10k, but unique. Other than that, it's just a bunch of badges that said you spent more money. Lol.

The suspension is different on the 2 trucks.

When I bought my truck Silverado CCSB 4 months ago, I negotiated the Spray on Liner. It looks beautiful. I just moved and used the truck for the move obviously. Those scuff marks on the liner was a little hard to take in. LOL.

And my truck was $35K. I'm sure at $61K, this would have hurt a lot more. [emoji23]

There are several including wheels and suspension but I am not going to list them, look it up yourself if curious.

Personally, I would choose a well appointed SLE and use the money saved to enhance my toy collection or personalize my truck. Your engine choice is limiting your selection to the SLT or Denali. Both are beautiful trucks so my vote would be for the SLT. As already mentioned, I would rather have the money in my pocket!

If you'rea "looks" guy I would check out an SLT level All Terrain model you can spec out w/ body matched bumpers like the denali (& unlike any other trim) & IMO the 20" AT wheels are as good if not better looking than the 20" denalis (I would not run 22"s on a truck just personal preference) - however IMO the biggest knock on the AT SLT trucks is the "leather" is not of the same quality as other SLT's let alone a Denali, and its not perforated, and you can't get them ventilated/cooled either.

If it were me & I was going to do it all over again I'd be patient & order exactly what I now realize I want - a crew cab SLT, 6.2 w/ max trailering package w/ smallest wheel size offered (save the $ dump the stock rubber immediately & level it), standard bed, & bench seat.

SLT + Max trailering + bench seat + standard bed = rare
