Choosing between SLT and Denali..

Denali has magnetic ride control to work around, so not the same mechanically.

Right plus if you are buying the flagship and then slapping on shit mods ex) RC lifts you are kind of a shmuck. You really need to spend the 6k on a Cognito lift. 500+ per tire (350+ for USD) etc etc etc.

If you start off with premium just expect to keep paying premium. Works for many things in life not just cars.

On the gmc build page where I priced out the two trucks... I removed the max trailering package from the SLT.. and that shaved 1200 bucks off the price. I don't have a camp trailer or anything, and really don't plan on buying one so I really wouldn't need the tow package.

As for my experience with the seat... when I sat down in the truck with the bench seat it just felt more comfortable... Maybe the center console is a different height... different kind of foam/padding in the seats... I just noticed it first thing when I sat in the truck that it felt more comfortable. I noticed it right off and I got out walked across the lot and got back in the Denali... and it just wasn't as comfortable... oh crap... It just came to me that the truck I sat in with the bench seat was actually a Chevrolet = (. I'm sorry, maybe they have different seats??

I don't have any plans for lifting or lowering the truck

I would say take the trailering if you are planning on trading it in within 5 years. I mean I did and have not used it except to pull a buddy boat (which was not large and a car could have). I took it solely for the trade in value. A truck with 4X4 and trailing for starts will holds its value because that is what everyone buys used trucks for.

Seats are the same, they were probably set differently. With the 10way the seat kind of goes up a bit of an angle not straight up. So you kind of have to go up and forward and then back to get the full seat height. I am sure there is a reason for this but you got me why. I suggest fiddling with both if you have not and see.

Those are famous last words around here sir :)

I bet your right about the seat height was adjusted differently... I mentioned it to the salesman and he told me that he preferred the bench seat feeling to... Gotta stop listening to these stinking salesman who just tell you garbage half the time... = )

I prefer the bench seat too and have one but it is more about the girl that squeeze up beside you. You should see how bad the salesman wants the sale woo woo.

I'm in the same boat, wanting the 6.2 and not a Chevy so I'm limited to the SLT and Denali. To me, the Denali doesn't offer anything extra I want besides the larger dash screen (which can be added to an SLT later). Cooled seats are available on both. I want the console, which both offer. Lane departure on the Denali is cool, but just a gadget. LCD screen in the back is worthless in the age of iPads. I don't really care one way or the other for the magnetic suspension over traditional. So buying new, the SLT is a no-brainer for me. If I end up buying something used I might try to find a Denali but I certainly won't turn down and SLT for the right price. Both are VERY nice trucks.

People might say a Denali holds its value better, but I don't find that to be true. I've been searching the country on Autotrader and Truecar for SLT and Denali trucks 2015 and newer. Once they hit the used market, it doesn't cost that much more to upgrade to a Denali.

The SLT offers lane departure also. Do you have a link that talks about adding the denali dash screen to the SLT?

The gauge cluster is pretty easy...just purchase a new cluster and have Chris White (GTXPrix) on here reprogram it to work in your truck. I did it and love it. Total cost will be less than 1k...really depends on how much you get the cluster for.

My brother had this dilemma two weeks ago, ended up going with a 2016 Denali, the gauges look awesome, and man that chrome grill is VERY NICE, best looking truck on the road right now imo.

Well with putting the max tow package back on the SLT and taking the tri mode step off the denali (forgot I had added it earlier on the build page) it brings the 2 trucks within 8K of each other...

On a side note, I just looked through a dealers' inventory that's about 2 hrs away from me, and they have two 2017 Denali's both with the ultimate denali packages added on... the Black one is 52K and the white frost tri coat is $53,829... There both around $12,000 less than what the build price shows it should be on GMC.com... ???

Is the dealership Laura's GMC by chance?

There are big discounts off MSRP when these things hit the dealer so it would make sense they have discounted that much. I would assume the SLT would be between 40 and 45 after rebates etc.

When I bought my denali new I got it for only about 2k more than a used (around 10k miles) SLT. I don't think you will see a 10k difference in price when you actually sit down and crunch the numbers.......

And honestly, if you want a bench seat, why not get an upgraded SLE with a leather bench seat??? That will definitely save you some money.

As far as the 6.2L, do you tow a lot of heavy weight? If not, what's your reason for wanting the 6.2L? If I'm not mistaken, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, GM recommends the 6.2L be run with premium fuel. That means you have a bigger motor that gets less mileage when just driving around and you have to use more expensive fuel.......That new 5.3L doesn't let the grass grow under it, especially with the addition of a programmer.

    • More is cylinder deactivation. Kia-Hyundai Ive had 4. The warranty is the same 10 years 100K miles. My grandson drives the first one 05 Elantra GT. My wife drives the second one 2011 Genesis. The Genesis still performs as new and looks great. The Elantra looks rough. He’s not kind to it. The third was a Genesis coup. The fourth was a Santa Fe. Those were my daily drivers. I don’t keep them long. Kia is the same as Hyundai with the same warranty. I looked at the K-4 today. Too small, otherwise pretty good buy. Most of Hyundai and Kia’s have a performance upgrade.
    • Thanks for the point of reference
    • Great question. Answer....depends. One the volume of the crankcase, the driver that will actually be using the vehicle and the amount it uses plus the distance expected for that next trip. Couple of for instances:   Wife is going to drive Dizzy to Moline and back plus a bit around town so say 500 miles on the day. I know from years with that SUV that around town and local rural it uses about a quart in 1250 miles. But on the Interstate and her at the wheel without her anchor nagging her she'll push it and it will drop a quart in about 800 miles. Hence, around town I wait to somewhere between a quarter down to a quart down. On her trip I'd top it if it was down a few ounces and hope for the best.    Have I overfilled one? You mean by adding before it needs a full quart I assume. No, not once after finding the true fill mark.  I know the dipsticks of everything I drive and add what it needs. I learn this by doing the first oil change a quart low. Run the motor for a few minutes. Let it sit over night. Check and mark. Then add half a cup at a time making note of the place on the stick. I add through the dipstick tube with a barbeque basting bottle. Give it a few minutes to drain down and check again.    A vehicle like Dizzy that uses this much oil will take a few quarts between 3K changes. I keep one in the vehicle with the bottle and a bag. (Mindful of it's fullness) Not a big deal and never makes a mess of it. There is no such thing as "multiple quarts' in my shop for any specific oil. There will be a maximum however of the number of different oils used over the fleet.     Dizzy holds a nominal 5 quarts. So the first fill was indeed over as it actually took 4.75. My vehicles are fit with Valvomax valves so I can meter an ounce on the drain if need be. Found her mark first crack at it. Never to be repeated.    Pepper uses none between changes so I don't keep a quart in that one. Straight up 6 quarts put her dead on the full line. Check it ever fuel stop. They will surprise you when they start using.    Raven holds 3 liters or 5.44 ounces over three quarts. I add 3 quarts and 6 ounces. That gives me 5 oil changes on my orphan quart.    Lawnmower holds about 3/5 of a quart. I don't over fill it to prevent an orphan. So yea, depends.
    • 185k on original 6.2L engine and 10 speed. 6" lift with 35" tires. Changed oil (Mobil 1 synthetic) when truck told me to. Original tranny with original fluid and no service or flush done. All highway miles. A/C compressor replaced at 155k. Oil cooler line replaced at 180k. Still daily driver. Love this truck.   This is my 3rd 6.2L vehicle (2008 Yukon Denali / 2018 Cadillac Escalade) with over 150k miles and no issues. Denali had broken motor mount at 100k.
