I believe it is OK concerned about fuel costs even if you have the ability to pay. I respect that driving a high powered vehicle is a lot of fun for those who choose to prioritize there finances to this purpose. Using myself as an example, I get all the pleasure of owning and driving a 4X4 2015 Sierra that I want but have the V6 engine. If I am saving a further $6-$7 a fill up, this is a bonus!

Agreed. There are many truck owners that drive 30-40k plus miles per year. It definitely has to be considered if the fun from the 6.2 is worth another $50 per month in fuel, plus the price of the 6.2 option itself. I love the 6.2, but my 5.3 is no slouch and has never left me feeling under-powered. Similarly for the guys that own the 4.3 and are happy with it.

Who was worried about it? Just stating the fact. It is something to consider if you do not need the 6.2. It will cost you maybe $3000 more over 5 years plus the cost of the bigger engine to purchase.

I'm not knocking the 6.2L, I drove one and they are fun to drive. I just personally couldn't justify the extra $3,000 for only a slightly bigger engine when I may pull my boat 2-3 times a year for 100 miles round trip....and was only trying to put things in perspective for the OP.

Not to mention if you figure up the added savings over a 100,000 miles life of the truck you would save in excess of $5,000 by going with the smaller engine. I don't know about you but trucks aren't the only toys I like to play with and $5,000 buys a couple nice guns and plenty of ammo to put through them......and I would still have a truck.

But, to your point, to each his own.

Here are my 2 cents

I special ordered my 2015 GMC CCSB SLT. I went with the SLT because I WANTED the bench seat. I WANTED Summit white and not pearl white. I also built it with all the other options that the denali has (sunroof, rear slider, etc.) MSRP on my truck after I built it was 57k.

I am very happy with my decision, the bench seat was the main deciding factor to me so I can haul 6 people, which I have a few times now.

There are also a bunch of options that are standard on Denali and available at extra cost on an SLT

Well I am not sure why people are convinced that the 6.2 420 hp 8spd 5800lb 0-60 in 5.6 seconds beast of a truck gets bad fuel mileage?

On the original OP's question SLT or Denali if you are trying to save money you can of course get a SLT for less money. If money is not that big of a concern then get the Denali. Most likely you can swear off cigs and beer for a few months and save the difference pretty easily....

I personally believe the 6.2 gets great mileage for the size. However, where I live it costs 18 cents a litre more for 91 octane than 87. At a fill of 80 litres this works out to $14.40 per fill. You're also correct that if I wanted to change my priorities, I could direct funds to increased fuel costs.

Yes, 6.2 takes the premium gas not the cheap stuff.

You can run regular, the computer adjusts the hp to the gas. Premium is recommended but but not necessarily needed.

Yea no thanks, I'm not going to detonate my motor over 7 bucks in gas,I run 94 in my 6.2.

It runs like a raped ape, I had a tranny relearn because it wasn't behaving, now it squawks through the 1st three gears if I'm on it, she's getting to 99 mph in under 7-9 seconds

If won't detonate. It's fine to run 87, the recommendation for 91 is to reach the hp ratings. I work at a Gm dealership, 80 % of people run 87 octane when we did our polls.

I run 94 octane in mine but only because it's tuned for it. If I had to run 87, there's no issue at all.

    • Stan, this thread is specifically related to the Duramax 3.0, in the 2019-2026 powertrain subforum. If you'd like to talk about your other vehicles and offer anecdotal stories about them, please consider starting a thread in forum that pertains to your truck, or the other vehicles/ Off-Topic section if they are not a GM truck.
    • Can someone tell me where the video processing module is in a 2023 Silverado? I'm getting conflicting results that it's in the front passenger area or the rear passenger area behind the seat.
    • Yes I agree, its what amounts to free advertising to let people know about his UOA testing company, and not that there is anything wrong with that but certainly that is a motivator for putting out videos about the science of oil as well as other topics such as oil and air filtration etc. The interesting part I found with his last video is not only the physics behind the reason for the varying wear due to a diesels working torque range causing more bearing load and that higher viscosity oil is of benefit, it was also that the chemistry behind the GM Dexos 0W-20 and the Mobil Dexos licensed 0W-20 are far enough apart that its showing up with a difference in wear even though the two oils are matched in viscosity and in that comparison viscosity was not having the finger pointed at it.    There are a few youtubers out there or one anyway that I have watched a bit of who has gone through the pains of accessing various countries manuals for a certain engine platform and while in the US/Canada it may say use 0W-20 or what have you for some Toyota product, in some other countries it sings a very different tune for the very same engine with the typical traditional oil viscosity/ambient temperature charts to help choose which oil viscosity is correct for the conditions the vehicle will be used in and in some cases its taken an engine in a US manual that states only use 0W-20 as per warranty coverage and yet that same engine in certain other countries may have up to a 15W-40 etc oil option that meets the spec. Another words the guy who is driving through Death Valley or Phoenix and south weather at 120f is often being fed a line of bs by the US system that has forced vehicle companies to restrict the warranty to a specific low viscosity oil for anterior reasons as well as the long drain interval suggestions.    Thankfully youtube is free ( yet anyway ) for viewers to sift through information and of course comes with the good and the bad ( truth and lies ) and we can choose to turn off/not watch what a person finds is bs or just not interested in the topic.
    • No doubt... But, as someone who doesn't pay for his services, but who has provided a few views/clicks on his Youtube platform, the data around the Mobil oil testing I think does have some value including to "freeloaders" like me.   A lot of what he's doing is likely showing the OE's work in their oil selection, something that many of us had kind of assumed was true all along, a good balance of both excellent protection and efficiency.
    • Lake Speed is drumming up business for his company just by being in the spot-light so he has a vested interest in stoking the 0W-20 fire.  IMO
