Allot of the 2014 didn't get ordered into dealers with trailer brake controllers so allot if us had to add aftermarket ones.

 

Most of them have them now.

yeah, I am with LTZTom, what does NHT stand for? I am a Chevy guy, so I am not familiar with the GMC codes.

I paid 37 out the door for mine. 2014 5.3 NHT, std bed 4wd LT. To think that someone would pay 20k more for the same truck + 6.2 and options, is mindboggling.

 

Its more like 10k, and it is not a 2014 5.3, MSRP was 58k on this truck and it was 45k before tax,title,license. It's more than just a 6.2, I would have got a denali but you can't get the max trailing package(NHT) on a denali. This truck is night/day different than my 2014, but hey im glad your happy with your 2014

NHT is the order code for Max Tow Package.

 

NHT Max Trailering Package, On Crew Cab and Double Cab models, includes 9.76" rear axle, (JL1) trailer brake controller, enhanced cooling radiator, revised shock tuning for increased control, heavier duty rear springs and increased RGAWR
On LT - Includes (G80) heavy-duty automatic locking rear differential and Z82 Trailering Package. Requires (L83) 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 engine and (DPN) outside heated power-adjustable vertical camper mirrors. Includes (PZX) 18" x 8.5" bright-machined aluminum wheels with (RKX) 18" tires or may upgrade to (RD4) 20" aluminum wheels with either (RC7) or (QSS) 20" tires.
On LTZ - With (L83) 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 engine, requires (PZX) 18" x 8.5" aluminum wheels and (RKX) 18" tires or may upgrade to (RD2) 20" chrome wheels with either (RC7) or (QSS) 20" tires. With (L86) 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 engine, requires (RD2) 20" chrome wheels with (QSS) 20" tires. Requires (DQS) Outside heated power-adjustable vertical camper mirrors. Not available with (Z71) Off-Road Suspension Package.
Max tow and Z71 cannot be ordered on the same truck.
Max tow is only available on LT and LTZ trim levels.

I'm not sure why he was trying to compare his base 14' to your high end 17'

Night and day differences.

I for one love my 17ltz with 6.2 and Max tow.

Heck the dash isn't even the same on an Lt vs. an ltz.....lol

No, I get it. They are different trucks, one has more options and a larger engine and niceties that mine doesn't. I totally understand that newer trucks cost more than previous years, and that there are differences between a 14 and 17. But even comparing 14s to 14s, back when I got mine. An LTZ or SLT with a 6.2/NHT 4wd std bed CC was in the upper 50s. Mine stickered at 47 something and I paid 37 something out the door.

 

For that kind of money (55k+), you're entering duramax territory. Since I tow a heavy TT, if I were to go duramax it'd be a go big or go home event 1 ton, dually, LT d-max. I had a few dealers down to the mid to upper 50s for such a config. So I personally could not justify paying that kind of money when the capability per $ didn't make sense for me.

 

I'm not poo pooing your decision, I think it's nuts that trucks have gotten so expensive.

BTW, what is the payload number on the door?

Have to remember the same $10k you got off your truck you can also get off that mid 50s truck. So it is not a $20k difference it is a $10k difference. So duramax is in the mid 50s discounted and your truck mid 30s discounted. They truck in question if msrp is mid 50s and discounted equally it is in the mid 40s.

I got pretty much the same truck in June...16 SLT CCSB with 6.2L/8 speed, upgraded wheels/ 7 speaker Bose and running boards plus brake controller and spray on liner and it was just about the same price, so that sounds about right. It was 54 msrp and I got for 46+ tax/title/registration.

I tow an 8k lb race trailer when it is fully loaded with my car and everything. Most of it is locally with a round trip of about 25 miles, I travel out of town every once in awhile but no huge grades or anything. My old 5.3 SLE towed the trailer comfortably everywhere i went. So a duramax to me was almost overkill and I couldn't stomach the monthly payment especially when in months i wouldn't even be using it, and on top of that one of my good buddies that also sponsors the car has a 15' duramax that we could use if I ever needed to. The bigger monthly payment, diesel maintenance and also the daily ride on the HD's when your not towing is what made me just get the most capable 1500 I could.

I was looking under the hood of my 2014 z71. It looks like it has an oil cooler and a trans cooler. My question is, is there a difference in the trans cooler on my z71 and your NHT max tow model? Thanks in advance

Not 100% on this, but I remember reading that 15s+ (maybe some 14.5 models?) have the same trans cooler as a 14 max tow regardless of gear ratio.

    • It varies a ton around me. Some places are still at $5.00 or higher and others are way down into the $4's.   Offroad diesel was $4.02 at the one station I passed today.
    • So after reading the reveal from Chevrolet, I kept asking myself...why did the trim levels change?   Here are the official ones:   Work Truck (WT): The quintessential fleet truck, built with durable, easy-to-clean interiors for commercial or utilitarian use. Custom: A stylish, road-oriented trim that adds a more refined appearance, standard dual exhaust, and modern exterior styling. Custom Trail Boss: An entry-level off-roader featuring a 2-inch factory suspension lift and 34-inch mud-terrain tires on a budget. Silverado: Serving as the new base consumer truck (replacing the previous LT trim), it comes standard with the Z71 off-road package when equipped with 4WD. Carplay is also something that cannot be removed.  Hopefully it will remain.     I am excited about the 5.7L V8 (350 C.I.D.)  Old school Chevy power.  My only concern is whatever version of AFM/DFM cylinder deactivation.  Too bad that isn't an option a buyer can choose to have or not.   I will definitely be stopping by my local dealership when these trucks start showing up.
    • I haven't seen diesel for less than $5.30 anywhere in my area
    • The not as clean as one would assume theme with the new engine oil, that reminds me of comments over the years with mechanics not always being so on board with filling an oil filter, not from the center anyway due to that typically being the clean side of the filter, danger of some contaminant falling into the filter if not careful but the realization now that the oil may not be as pure as one had assumed it would surely be. Yes it would be possible to fill from the small holes but that means messing with something to prop open the anti drain back valve if the filter is so equipped and not damage that valve in the process. Me, I have hardly ever prefilled an engine oil filter however I have prefilled diesel fuel filters with a filter on a fuel bulk tank and for anyone that has messed with diesel engines with filters and units that have a limited or no way of priming them, putting on a dry filter is a bad day to say the least with those crappy systems. But anyway back to not so clean engine oil, indeed perhaps its not so bad after all that I have not made a practice of prefilling oil filters.    As Grumpy Bear commented on keeping things clean, that I really have to wonder what the typical practice is at a dealer or any other shop that changes engine oil, do they make sure to wipe or wash off the oil plug and certainly if it fell into some gunk or onto a dirty floor, or that they wiped the filter mounting flange and didn't go and use some dirty rag and end up adding dirt to the inside of the head of the filter mount. Or be careless in how they stored or handled the new filter and if they were bumping into items under the vehicle with the filter opening facing up and having dirt drop right into the filter and if so right into the threaded center that is on the clean side. The top side, did they clean away the built up gunk that may be around the filler before removing the cap or to be really careful at that point that something right close to the filler hole that was hidden under the caps flange won't fall into the engine. Or did they clean the funnel or was that just laying there covered in oil from the oil change before and dust kicked up from sweeping the floor stuck to the oil and now that will go running into the next persons engine due to just not cleaning the funnel as "they won't know anyway" attitude as that young guy is more worried about taking a break so he can go outside and smoke a joint. Just random points that came to mind when I think about what some hired personnel may do that the shop foreman has no idea of or perhaps the whole attitude of some shops may be "eh ... who cares, they will never know the difference anyway".
