Overheating issue

I have searched and haven't really found an answer I have an 01 Silverado 2500HD. Driving to the airport one of my heater hoses to the heating core the plastic fitting snapped and sprayed all over causing me to slow down over heat. I towed it home. I replaced that fitting, refilled coolant and still overheating. I then changed out thermostat. I can drive as long as my AC or Heater is on. It seems like once i'm at temp about 200 degrees if I turn off the AC or heater or even just the air blowing then the temp goes all the way up and I overheat. Within the last year I have had a new radiator and water pump put in. I "burped" my system already, there is no coolant smell or anything leaking inside or outside of my truck. I am stumped on what to do or check next?

Any help would sooooo be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure your water temp sensor is correct?

I believe so, my engine light comes on and says something about reducing engine power and then I lose power, can only drive like less than 5 miles an hour.

I ended up doing a full flush of my system until nothing but clean water came out replaced a few hoses just cause they were old refilled the system and so far so good no overheating and lights coming on. Had to put in about 5 gallons of coolant. I have the 8.1L gas motor.

Sounds like you got it hopefully it goes away I had a similar problem with my 6.0 but I think it ended up being my clutch wasn't tight enough on the water pump.

I would be sure to clean the radiator and condenser coils also. I like to use a HVAC evaporator coil cleaner (be sure to avoid getting it on the painted surfaces). Lack of airflow through the coils can cause the fan blade clutch NOT to engage causing an overheat condition. The heat from the coils has to flow freely over the clutch to make it engage! Next step would be to replace the fan clutch itself, not sure what your mileage is but at 16 years old you probably have several miles on it so do both and drive another 16 years........ .
