Thinking of going from 2014 1500 5.3 to 2016 2500 6.0

The ride thing is because many folks use pickups as their primary car nowadays. I owned a lot of 4x4's over the decades, light and heavy varieties. The 2500 is not "rough" by any measure I am used to, especially compared to some of the older SFA designs, and I am not sure I want a pickup that rides like my wife's Cadillac. And the ride of the 2500 is considerably better than my semi truck running I-80 thru Joliet, IL, a place where they did get the trees taken out but left the stumps and marked it as an interstate highway. It is all about perspective I suppose.

Exactly

I bet my 2011 rode better than my father's crew cab from the 70s.

X2 on ride. My 1500 is very "soft" in my opinion. I'm surprised at how it rides over uneven bridge joints and things like that.

I had a 2001 Silverado and it wasn't nearly as soft as this. Seems this truck bounces a lot more (like the long, slow, soft bounce). I will probably like the stiffer ride of a 2500 more.

I think that the 3/4-ton trucks of today ride as good or better than the 1/2-ton trucks did 10 years ago and older. Sure, they aren't as comfy as the newer 1/2-tons, but if you're coming from an older truck, the ride is better, IMHO. They're much quieter, too!

I've had my 2500 almost 1.5 yrs and have over 16,000 miles on it. I haven't had any issues and am pleased with it. I think the stock tires aren't the best, as I have the SRA's, but I don't notice any excessive bounce or vibration as of yet. Nothing more than I've had with any truck I've owned, anyways. I'd like to swap the tires, but I know I won't get much for the OEM ones, so I'll try to get a bit more out of them before replacing them. That's all dependent on if I keep the truck without selling or trading before then!

You can't go just on leaf count to determine spring capacity -- leaf width, thickness and length also factor in.

But there is no doubt that the 2500's have significantly higher payload capacity than the 1500 - exact number depends on truck configuration compared.

Agreed, I have mono-leaves for my one trailer rated at 18k per pair...

If you notice, the leaf springs have gotten longer to make the ride better. They are almost 25% longer from what I've seen.

Figured since I started the thread I would update I went and looked at another 2500 Wednesday morning ending up going back purchasing it that night as well.

I just traded a 2014 Chevy Tahoe in for my first 2500HD truck, there are some very noticeable differences in the ride obviously. A bit stiffer, and you can feel all the road imperfections plenty more in the truck but that was to be expected. I did lose a lot of turning radius as well which was very nice in the Tahoe. I have a 33' TT that weights in at 8000lbs and was at limit of that Tahoe's capabilities. In a drive from NC to TN along I40 over the mountains that Tahoe was struggling bad to say the least. I can't wait to try out the towing capability of this truck.

This being may first HD truck, anyone have any advice on CAI's, exhaust systems, and or programmer's?

My 2016 2500 Denali rides just about as smooth as my '13 F150

I went from a magnaride Denali 1500 to a 2500 Denali Z71 and am shocked at how smooth it is for what it is. I'm not suggesting it's as smooth as the maganride (of course it isn't) but it rides better than my 2014 Ram 2500 with coils did.
