GMC Polished exhaust tip.

I ordered it from Amazon and it arrived today. It's quite heavy and high quality.

I've never ordered or put on just an exhaust tip before, as my previous cars/trucks usually have a dual exhaust or already have a polished exhaust tip on it.

The directions state I'm supposed to slip the end or this polished tip over the pipe end.

But there is no way it's not nearly big enough to fit over the stock 3" exhaust pipe, it'll fit INSIDE of it, but not over it.

When I ordered it, it made it sound like it was a quick 5 minute installation.

Did they make the exhaust pipe of the 2017 trucks with the 6.2 liter larger in diameter.

I ordered this for a 2016 GMC Sierra with the 6.2 V8 as even on GM parts direct site, they don't have anything for the 2017's on there yet. But I thought the 2017's were exactly the same.

So what gives?

it should fit over the exhust pipe i am not sure if the 6.2 has a bigger tail pipe you may need a different size it should slide right on and tighten the clamps in 5 min

Looks like you and I both ended up with the wrong tips today. The 22799814 I should have received for my 2016 Silverado fits 5.3 engines and has a Bowtie logo while the 22799815 you received also fits 5.3 engines but has a GMC logo. The one I received is a 22799816 which has a 3 1/2" inside diameter but no logo and my research shows it fits numerous GM's with 6.2 engines so it looks like the pipes are different sizes.

Pretty sure the 2017 6.2 has the same size exhaust exit pipe as the 2016 6.2 Here is a pic of the factory chrome exhaust off mine. Looks like 3" ID of the tip so i assume the factory exhaust pipe is 3" OD.

Yeah, the tip I got on the clamp side will fit INSIDE my stock exhaust pipe, but nowhere near the outside.

The stock exhaust pipe is 3" diameter.

I didn't measure but I'm pretty sure I got a 2.5" diameter exhaust tip.

I flipped the exhaust tip around too and I couldn't even slide it on backwards with the big opening.

 

The exhaust tip should come with a clamp size of 3 1/16th to 3 1/8" of an inch ID so it will snuggly slide over top the stock exhaust.

 

Not sure what one I have to order to get that.

The 5.3 has a 2.75" exhaust, the 6.2 has a 3"

Yep different size exhaust on the 6.2 than the 5.3.

2017 6.2 is the same size tailpipes all the way back to the 14's, it look less than 5 minutes to put mine on.

When I put in a 2016 GM Sierra SLT with 6.2 liter engine (I have a 2017 but the website doesn't have the 2017 Sierra's in there system yet).

It says right their that the part number #22799815 is for the 6.2 liter engine and has the green banner with check mark saying, "this item fits your vehicle."

I ordered it on Amazon as it was $9 cheaper with shipping, and Amazon also stated it fit the 6.2

 

I need to call them and let them know it doesn't and see what part I need for the 6.2

I see it now, I didn't see there was an arrow that dropped down more options that included the 6.2L

I did like the one with the logo and also that it was a "fat tip" on the end.
