2016 Silverado mirror question

In my 02 there was a feature where the rear view mirror would dim vehicle lights behind you and turn slightly greenish. My 2016 doesn't appear to do this. Did they do away with that feature or is there something I need to turn on?

The dimming mirror was decontented to only the higher trim models. You can replace it with one if you like.

the DL3 mirror is what you need. Autodimming. It can be added but its not really cheap.

DL3 or if you have tow mirrors DPN or DQS. Tow mirrors MUST be factory installed to get the dimming rearview mirror on a non DL3 truck.

I spent $15 for my auto dimming rearview mirror. Didn't cost anything to wire and install it.

 

There was a member on here that installed one with factory wiring so he could add the DL3 mirrors and have them auto dim also. There's a ton of stuff that doesn't come from the factory on these trucks that can be added.

In short - No.

 

If you want Auto Dimming on the Rear View Mirror only, you just need power to the mirror itself. The auto dim is activated by the sensor on the front of the mirror and triggered by lights behind you.

 

If you have upgraded your side mirrors from DL8 to DL3 and want Auto Dimming to work on the Driver's Side Mirror, you'll need Power, (2) Auto Dimming Circuits from the mirror ran to the X51L Fuse Panel and the X61A Junction Box. There is a 4th Circuit (Backup Lamp Control) which essentially deactivates the auto dim when in reverse.

 

You will then need to add the same (2) Auto Dim circuits on your Driver's Side Door Panel Harnesses (between the X500 Connector and X510 Connector). The Driver's Side Mirror - Auto Dim feature is activated when your Rear View Mirror is activated.

 

Can it be done? Yes - But it takes some work and patience.

 

I've created a thread on how I wired up my Rear View Mirror like it would have come from Factory.

I'm fairly certain this can be added as the tow mirrors operate similarly to the DL3 mirrors. Auto Dimming on the Driver's Side Mirror is dependent on the Rear View Mirror and circuits needed to operate. It can be done.

OP is talking about the rearview mirror (the one in the truck) hence my post. Auto dim rear view mirror is factory installed on DL3, DPN and DQS trucks.

Thanks for the responses guys. Yes I was talking about the inside the cab front window rear view mirror. I had a pretty basic 2002 Silverado and the auto dimming feature was present just curious why it wasn't in my new one. I can live without it.

Here's the write up I followed. Took maybe 30 mins taking my time. It's literally one wire to hook up. I tapped mine into the airbag light in the overhead console. You can go to a hobby store and find JST connections to add for the pin that needs grounded. I used an old servo that I pulled the pin from.

 

Had the auto dimming mirror on my last truck and I really missed it. Used mirrors on eBay fit tons of GM vehicles, so you don't have to buy a silverado one specifically.

 

 

Pgamboa did his differently and it was more involved, but it's more OEM than mine. That dude knows his stuff.
