Gas pump nozzle shuts off after only a few Gallons

Hello,

I have been noticing that when I fill up my truck(2016 Silverado Crew 5.3), sometimes the gas pump nozzle will shut off after only a few gallons. I have to keep resetting it every 1-2 gallons until it is full. This drives me absolutely insane. It happens at different gas stations and it happens when the attendants are filling my tank in New Jersey. Has anyone else had this issue?

Thanks!

You can generally eliminate this problem by not inserting the nozzle all the way down the filler neck. Try halfway down and see if it improves. It seems to vary from pump to pump, so you may need to experiment with how far down to place it. Just don't go too short with it, as it may come out of the neck.

Ditto what Big Thunder posted. Just back the nozzle out a bit and it should be fine.

I too am having this same problem. according to my dealer they said gm knows they had some tanks with molding issues. They replaced my tank and said problem solved. Not.. it still clicks off. It did not do this from new. They still have my truck from replacing the exhaust. Valve getting stuck so bad it caused my truck to stall. Service manager states they have other trucks on their lot with same problem. That I just need to fill it differently. I'm sorry for 45k I shouldn't have to have a trick to put fuel in the truck.

Got my truck back from the dealer yesterday and went strait to a fill up. To my surprise the finally fixed it. Even though they say it still has a problem. It isn't click off once. Teuck feels like it has much more power with a new exhaust. Those valves are a pain and cause buildup in exhaust parts make your dealers replace the exhaust if you have the afm bird chirp..

Backing the nozzle out has seemed to help, although I have only had to fill up once since posting this. Hopefully that solves my issue.

Maybe I should blame the fact that I am originally from New Jersey and never had to fill my vehicles myself!

I have the same issue and I believe the fule filler neck is a bad design. I also have a 2016 5.3

Monday I'll be taking it in for that issues plus a couple of other issues.

I have had my truck for almost three years and mine has just started doing this in the past month, drives me crazy. I have never "overfilled" my truck, as soon as the gas pump clicks off, I don't ever add more, I never had. It doesn't matter if I stick the nozzle all they way in, or pull it half out, it still wants to click off the gas nozzle only after a few gallons. Never had another vehicle so this or starting doing it after three years. It wouldn't be so bad in the summer, but when its 10 degrees outside, it sucks!

Friends 2016 2500HD 6.0L has been doing this since the day he bought and Monday morning when I was with him we stopped to get gas, so I stuck the pump nozzle 3/4 of the way into his filler neck, then set the nozzle pump to the lowest fill setting on the handle and his truck filled up without any issues, capped it off adding the 40 some cents to make it even dollar amount and away we went.

Make sure to rotate the handle 180 degrees before filling.... lol no I would seriously suggest you complain about it. It is not normal. If it was mine would have done it from day one. They replaced my tank. That did not solve the problem, they lowered the tank and "blew all the vent l ok nest out". I can now put gas in truck normally. I have also got a worse rough idle now and occasional jumpy acceleration.
