Condensation inside Truck. Normal?

Hey guys. I've been noticing some really bad condensation on the windows in the cab of my GMC on wet cooler days. If it would freeze overnight I'd have to scrape the inside of the windows I think. The carpet doesn't feel wet (not that I can notice anyways) and no, I don't leave wet gear in the cab. We have had a lot of rain in the Pacific Northwest over the last few months and with cooler temperature at night. My 2009 GMC never had this issue and I had that sucker for 7 years. Anyone else have this issue? Thanks.

Check the seal on your rear window slide, I had a friend who's was frayed and had the same issue, they replaced the seal

You have a leak somewhere. Do you have a sunroof?

That's funny because I was going to say I had that problem on my 2009 Sierra. Nothing on my 14 or 16 so far. I never figured out what was causing the 09 to do it.

Are you leaving the climate control on recirculate when parked? The Subaru I had did this and recirculation was the cause.

Are you leaving the climate control on recirculate when parked? The Subaru I had did this and recirculation was the cause.

 

That's an idea. We have a 2007 Mazda 6 that did this since day 1. Got a recall notice in the summer that the drivers side airbag could deteriorate due to a high moisture level in the vehicle resulting in metal shards striking the driver if the bag is deployed. I should wear a full face helmet driving that thing...

I heat with wood and use a moisture meter available from Lowe's for $20. I've heard of people using these meters to track down leaks in homes and vehicles, since you can read how wet anything you stick the probes in is. Just a thought for troubleshooting.

Great question! I live in the same region and find no differences between my '09 Sierra and my '15. My wife's 07 Yaris is really bad for condensation and if it isn't being used for long periods of time, we put in a container of the air-dry stuff used in winterizing travel trailers. I believe condensation is a reflection of how air-tight you keep your vehicle. A leak is a different story.

Make sure that the A/C snowflake is ON. That removes humidity from the inside/interior of the vehicle. Many people turn off their A/C when it gets cold. Well, A/C was originally designed to be a dehumidifier when it was 1st invented by carrier... the fact that it also cooled was just a bonus that we've all grown to love since then.

Automotive systems generally do not work when the temperature is below freezing. Regardless, defrost automatically turns on the compressor under appropriate conditions anyhow on most newer stuff.

You likely have a leak somewhere. Pull up the rocker (or sill plate) mouldings, and feel UNDER the carpet. See where the pad is wet. Lots of leaks can go straight under the carpet and you never see them.

What do you run the climate control settings at.

 

I had issue like you had but I would set the climate control manually.

 

I discovered when I put it in auto it keeps the windows clear on the inside better than I could with the manual settings.
