No lights on 4x4 panel, no 4x4

Got a 2001 silverado 1500 z71. Recently, rebuilt transmission. Since the transmission has been rebuilt the 4x4 does not work. There are no lights in the push buttons on the dash, no "service 4x4" light, no noise when you try to engage.

 

STEPS TAKEN:

-Checked/replaced all fuses

-Slaved in 4x4 button panel from known good truck.

 

Where to start? I only ask because to me, there's no electricity in the required circuits, so why go mechanical right off the bat...

Sounds like either a wire has been damaged or disconnected somehow. Just a guess...
