tire over-inflation?

With Bridgestone duelers 18 inch tires, would you classify 41-43 psi as being over-inflated? They used to hover between 38-40 psi before my service. Just curious.

I would go by the inflation chart in the drivers door jam. If you are hauling something heavy and want to add more you can.

There are many threads regarding this if you seach for it.

If you have stock tires (meaning same size and load rating that GM put on the truck when it left the factory) then you should shoot for the cold psi listed on your door jamb. On my truck that is 35 psi. so by that logic, yes, you are slightly overinflated. You may experience the center of your tread wearing faster and a slightly more bumpy ride with that condition. The factory rating is intended to give you the best traction/ tire wear/ fuel economy, etc.based on the weight of your truck. If you frequently haul very heavy loads, more air may be useful. I try to put about 2 psi more in my tires, so I keep them close to 37 psi cold.

* Note: any changes from the stock tire size/ type require you to figure out what new the optimal air pressure should be.

I kept my Goodyear SR-As at around 43 psi with no wear problem or anything for years. So with Duelers I see no problem. The psi on the door jamb is usually for the factory tire that came on the truck and is usually for a street/highway tread tire. If you go to an LT tire you'd want more. I personally just found that 32-35 is just low. It made the tires look flat or almost flat. And this is talking about tires with some sidewall. Like my '14 which had 18s and my '98 that had 16s. A low pro tire you might can get away with 35 and not seem low, but with actual sidewall 35 just seems low on a full size truck. I found 43 as a sweet spot, didn't make my teeth chatter when hitting a peeble like it would at around 48 or more. Also with lower psi making the sidewall seem low it to me seems to flex the sidewall more since it bulges out. I could be wrong, but it's just what I figure is happening.

My 2015 Silverado 1500 has 16000 miles on the original Goodyear wrangler sr-a 265/65r18. The tires are wearing on the outside and inside. They have been rotate every 5000 miles. Had the alinment check twice, rite on factory specs. Check tire pressure, 34psi. Here's my question, inside doors saids 35psi. Psi on tire saids 51psi. What is it suppost be . Tire wear indicates low pressure Any thoughts

I have the same set-up. I run them around 41-42 when they are warm (max psi).

The pressure listed on the sidewall is the max pressure for the tire and is not any sort of recommendation or requirement.

I found the door jam recommendation for the factory tires to be good. When I changed to an LT tire I bumped the pressure up to ~45psi cold. If you are getting wear on your tire indicating low pressure then you should use that over what a door jam or anything says IMO. Tire wear should tell you everything you need to know, it just doesn't tell you much until it is too late sometimes.

"Over" inflated would be over the maximum listed on the tire. GM recommends 35 (cold) for the best all-around performance (ride, handling, fuel economy, etc.). You can stay anywhere between ~32 and the max and be safe. You'll have a smoother ride with lower pressure.

The tire has no idea what vehicle it is installed on. It will list the max pressure, for the max load that the tire can handle. For a factory installation, this will be higher than the max load which the truck is rated for (so the tire is not the limiting factor)

GM will list (on the door sticker) the pressures for the factory installed tire, when the truck is at max rated carrying capacity.

The sticker will have the correct pressures for the factory installed tire size. This may be different for the same truck comfiguration, with a different tire size.

I have the same tires, and am running good old free air (first factory Mexican air, then later on American air added ) instead of nitrogen. The recommended 35 cold PSI will pump themselves all the way up to 40-41 PSI max in hot weather after running at freeway speeds. So I'd say that 43 PSI is a little over-inflated. The sidewall of the tire says max pressure is 44 PSI.

FWIW, when I purchased my truck, the SRA's were inflated to 44-46 psi. I lowered them all to 35 psi per the sticker, and the truck rode markedly better. 17k miles now, 3 rotations, and no adverse signs of wear.

They're supposed to like that... it lets the tire flex to absorb impact and for the tread to sit evenly on the road. Over inflating decreases the tire contact patch as well so you'll have worse traction in all conditions.
