Active Fuel Management - Delete?

I have a 2016 Sierra All Terrain, 5.3L

I have been reading some posts on a Facebook group, where several owners have had the AFM deleted so the engine runs V8 all the time. Some are saying that the AFM causes engine problems and/or oil to burn as it gets older.

My Sierra has 12,000 miles on it. I'm thinking that, if I decide to have it tuned & deleted, I should wait until after the 36K warranty is over.

What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks

I have thought this same thing also. And I have decided to just leave it alone. That way if I have any problems down the road it should be covered by the power train warranty. I know people who have 50-60 thounds miles on their trucks and have no issues and use no oil.

I had 160,000 kms on my past truck and 20,000 on my current truck with no AFM issues. I only know I have it because I see the little green V4 once in awhile. Facebook and this forum can have some useful information if you are searching for solutions to a problem. Do you have a problem with AFM?

Range device is your best bet, if you are worried about keeping the warranty.

Otherwise, custom tune so you not only get rid of AFM, but you also can adjust the shift points to give the truck better drivability.

Don't listen to these clowns...they have zero idea about the active fuel management.

Here's what you will want to do:

1. Snatch that grumpy engine out of your truck.

2. Replace old sappy engine with a brand new big block crate motor built without AFM.

3. Drink a beer and be proud that you didn't mess with all this new fangled computer mumbo jumbo that will catch your truck on fire while your grandmother and orphans are stuck inside of it with your favorite dog.

You are very welcome.

Lol, that'd be a great solution, I like it.

Hi,

If you delete the AFM i would suggest to not think to get it activated back again.

This is what i've read in the HP tuner fourm

60k on my '14. No issues with AFM. I think it shifts between 4 and 8 very well. Most of the time I need to look at the dash to tell what it's in. Clean oil and a good oil filter are key in keeping the AFM working from what I've read. That's why I make sure to run 0-20 Full Syn Dexos 1 approved oil and either a M1 or Wix filter. I have not even a thought about disabling this feature. It's a truck, not a SS camaro or Corvette.

I've honestly never even noticed it switching back and forth. Had it in my last truck as well. I do have to confess that I drive like grandpa everywhere. I doubt any vehicle I've owned in the past 10 years has seen past 2,000rpm. I also have stock exhaust and think those triple seals they market are the best thing ever.

I had to have it gone, with aftermarket exhaust, you heard it switch and when active I had a helicopter in the back.

^So did I when I first put my AFE cat-back on. However after that thing was on for a while and carboned up.... the helicopter went away. Even my wife who rarely rides in my truck noticed it went away. She cannot tell what modes it's in now.

Edit- Very happy with the AFE cat-back system after it carboned up! However I did get a MBRP tip instead of the Gaudy AFE tip which made me look like a wannabe diesel. I would buy the setup again.

I just use Manual mode when I city/suburbia drive and keep it in M7 mode. M8 when I am crusing the highway. Keeping it in M7 mode never engages V4 mode.
