A/C Fan speed

Again, as a first time new GM owner, there's a few things I'm getting used to with GM, another is the A/C fan speed of these trucks.

Even when it's on the very lowest setting, it still blows a lot more air than what I've experienced. Usually on the lowest setting of other vehicles the air coming out of the vents is just a trickle, as it should be, barely enough to feel if you hold your hand 6-8" in front of the vent. With my 2017 Sierra, on the lowest setting you can feel the air blowing easily 2-3 feet away from the vent.

Is there anyway to override the A/C fan speed on these trucks so the lowest setting truly is just a bit of air coming out?

Thanks

What position do you have the vents on?

Yeah, this. I've noticed the same with my heater/AC fan. I just turn the setting to floor so it's not blowing directly at me.

I don't like the A/C coming out of the bottom though. I sometimes take my shoes off when cruising and then it gets annoying having the air blowing constantly on my feet, just like I don't like the air blowing directly in my face either.

When I get into a hot vehicle I usually turn the A/C fan up higher for a few minutes until the vehicle is cooled off, then turn the fan speed down to maintain the comfortable level, but don't want the air blowing directly on me. With this truck, again, on the lowest setting it still blows so hard that I can hold my hand up between the front seats in line with my face and you can easily feel the air hitting your hand. I'm pretty sure if I sat in the back I could feel the air on my face back there, even when on low. It should be half that speed or less.

Maybe I gotta call my service dept on Monday to see if there is a software flash that adjusts the fan speed settings.

I would never need it to blow harder than what half way up the scale currently is now, but would love to have a setting that went a click or two slower than what the lowest is now.

The regular top front position.

If you change to split (top and floor position) that will lower the aggressiveness as it will divert air through the upper and lower vents. Much less noticeable I think, on all fan speeds vs. just the dash vents. They are quite strong on low though, yes. Especially if you have a regular cab like I do. Then you really notice it!

Yeah, I've been meaning to ask about this since the first week I owned my 2017 (10 weeks ago).

It's unusually strong. Surprised GM hasn't R&D this and compared to everyone else, which truly have a LOW fan speed where just a tiny bit of air comes out of the vents, just enough to keep the vehicle from having stagnant air.

My other option is to find out if the A/C fan unit uses more than one actual fan. If they use two or three, maybe I can just disconnect one of the fans so there is less volume of air blowing in.

Also make sure all of the vents are open as well, if you close the vents down it will increase the air pressure even with the fan on the lowest setting.

True

I'll check to make sure the passenger side vent is open too.

So don't get involved with other people's "problems." Move along, don't waste anymore of your time, my time, or anybody else's with pointless commentary.

I always choose the floor /dash setting on mine. The truck seems to default to dash only for some reason and even on low the fan is loud.

My 14 has a thumb wheel to regulate the air coming out of each one of my vents. So does my wife's 17 Equinox. Don't the 17 trucks?

I agree with having excessive fan speed that can't be decreased for my comfort after the cabin has established a comfortable temp. There should be a true "low" setting. Why? Is this the GM fix for not having rear vents? No, I guess, if this is the situation in all cab configurations.

Yeah I figure the chance is slim.

But people have to speak up about things like this, otherwise manufacturers just stay the course.

It's really surprising to me that this isn't something people have mentioned if this is common with GM.

I'll call GM and make a note too, it's pretty simple to. Maybe in future models they'll actually have a true low.
