Better tire choice for stock

Michelins are expensive for a reason, they are the best IMO. Cooper would be 2nd choice

I just bought the Falken wildpeak at3w. A set of 4 Lt275 65r18 for $7-800 (I forget) installed with the replacement certificates. The are beefy and ride very nice. The light truck versions are 62pounds and the pmetric ones are 46-48 pounds (don't remember exactly).

 

I have put almost 10000 miles on them. They are wearing and driving very good.

Also I have a set of cooper at3s on my jeep (15 " rims and around 33 " diameter). Love em. Almost went that route with truck but the defenders are exactly what I was looking for. Highway performance but can handle snow. The sra s sucked even though I got over 66k out of them.

In March when they are available, Michelin LTX AT/2s' are going on my truck.

I was doing some window shopping for tires at my local Costco last year before getting my Cooper's. I asked if they still carried the M/S since I didn't see them online at the time, the only tires that came up were the Bridgestone Alenza's. The store clerk told me the Defender was the store brand version, but same as the M/S and that they had them. Yeah, may have been the case last October, but it looks like what you said is the case now.

How did you get 66K out of the SRAs? I rotated mine religiously, kept up with the air pressure, no burnouts and I only got 29K out of them. Were yours racing slicks before you pulled the plug?

The Defender LTX MS's replaced the LTX MS2's which replaced the LTX MS's. The tread pattern remains the same but supposedly improved compounds.

I took the Goodyears off at 600 miles and put the Michelin LTX Defenders on and haven't looked back. Excellent wet traction, dry traction and have been thru some snow already here in WV and not any problem and very important to me is they are dead quiet. I live up a hill that is about a 10% grade and with 4 inches of snow last week, I put the Sierra in auto 4WD and the Defenders did the rest. This tire is about Tire Racks highest rated light truck tire and for a good reason. I have a set of the Goodyear Eagle LS in the garage if you want to replace your stock with the same but I don't recommend it.

Well for the cost, I'd love to pick up your tires....though I think shipping may be kinda pricey

Lifting and fuel economy not really friends and since you plan to lift in a couple years you're likely going to want new tires then again larger than what you can fit under a stock set up. If youre budget conscious I'd say just get a set of falken wildpeaks or maybe they call them something different in the states but they are very inexpensive and perform very well for the price point you'll be hard pressed to find another tires like it. The only draw back is they are a little heavy but they won't break the bank and they will last quite a bit.

 

Save your money over the michellin or goodyears even the tioyos are more money if you're going to go bigger in s couoke years. Or maybe find a good used set that will take you a couple years down the Rd. A benefit of that is they are usually very cheap and if you find a tire you like you can try it out for peanuts before you buy them in a larger size for your next set up. I did that with duratracs and now that's all I run. Was a cheap way for me to learn how that tire would perform for me before dropping $2k in rubber.

Yeah I get that. I'm not looking to hyper-mile here, just don't want to get something that will hurt mileage for now.

 

When I lift the truck it will be used on weekends and for fun. Supercharger and LTs will go on as well. But for now, I will have to go through at least another set of tires in commute miles. Just trying to find the best balance, without neutering the truck either. Sounds like the Defender is the best choice and I found a price of $786 for all 4 thru tirerack...not too bad, especially considering how long they last.

 

Thanks everyone for the help! I won't have cool LOOKING tires for a couple years, but I'm hopeful I will get great use out of them and later on I can enjoy 600+hp and 8mpg
