Debating a return to a Silverado

Just wanting to get some input from you all. Debating a return to a Silverado. My 14 LTZ was a disaster. Basically drove me to a Ram. I really like the new front/Z71 look. The Ram is okay, but I really miss how quiet the Silverado was. Just looking for input on the following:

  • Are the headlights any better? I had the projector style in the LTZ, they were terrible... Has it been fixed?
  • Are the truly going to another manufacturer for the seats? I've seen this reported in some of the comments.
  • Is the pedal flex still there?
  • Transmissions getting any better with the shifting beyond learning mode?
  • Can dim the touchscreen independently of the instrument cluster yet? Meaning does it have a separate control on the touchscreen itself? The 14 was so bright...
  • I realize that I had a first model year, but are the recalls calming down?
  • Still having the long warm up cycles in really cold weather? Meaning below freezing and then also below zero.

So anyways, just looking for answers and if this is all still the same. Thanks.

LED lights on my Sierra are almost perfect! I can't even drive another vehicle now because of the difference....Can't dim separately the Screen with the instruments/dash......The DOOR CHIME IS ABSURDLY LOUD ON LOW SETTING STILL?

Just check for the driving vibrations in all speed ranges before you make the leap! I have the 8speed and after some farting around it's pretty dang nice!

Go to a dealer and check out the new trucks to see if they now satisfy your needs. I have a '15 Sierra and my only issue was the loud door chime mentioned by mokdoc6. This was a simple and free program fix at my dealership.

  • WT-LT use HID projector, LTZ and High Country LED projector

  • Rumors at the moment. Any changes for that would not be seen until 2019's redesign most likely.
  • Is the pedal flex still there?
  • Probably
  • Transmissions getting any better with the shifting beyond learning mode?
  • Eh.

  • Cluster and IPC are dimmed together.

You might as well hang onto the Ram, at least until the new design GM comes out. Is the Ram a lease? My buddy traded in a fully loaded Ram for a new F-150 and took it in the shorts, big time...Ram's have some craptacular resale/trade-in....worst of the Big-3...honestly, i'd wait and see what the new design brings.

I traded a 16 Ram Laramie Longhorn in on my 17 Silverado LTZ Plus pkg. I have the LED headlights and they are great, better than the Ram IMO. I also have the intellibeam headlight control which is extremely convenient. (The Ram had their version also.)

I liked the interior room of the Ram better, it just "felt" bigger but the quietness of the cab in the Silverado is better to me.

I have the painted front end which is the only thing I liked better than the sierra. I test drove both, like both and ended up with the Chevy because of the painted front. The local GMC dealer had a few all terrain sierras with the painted front but none had the ventilated seats that I wanted.

My Ram had the 8 speed and so does my 17 silverado, so far (only 1300 miles), I haven't had an issue with either. I do have the Range AFM disable device installed but it's because I prefer it to be in V8 all the time.

The Ram's definitely take a bigger depreciation hit than the GM trucks.

Hey, thanks to everyone for the feedback.

I have been looking online for what I want in a Silverado, but not finding much. If one pops up, I'll drive it maybe and see how it feels. IIf they are introducing a new model soon I might wait a few years. Sure won't but the first model year again, lol.

I've been lucky as mine was an early build 14 (Aug 13). Im creeping up to 50K, aside from a couple recalls, no real issues yet...knock on wood

Really? Thanks Next time I go to dealer I will mention it! I simply can't take the F'N loud door chime it sends my anger through the roof!

Also, I get it that the front end of these beasts or trucks are like a 4x8 sheet of plywood simply having everything bounce and smash into the front end....BUT "RAM" what's with the plastic unpainted front end piece? That is straight up retarded looking? Looks, like the other poster was not having any of that either!

Guess I am lucky to witness how many RAM’s my brother goes thru – and all the issues he has. Well he does win the most toys competition in that he has a HellCat.............

To me the only issue buying a GM truck is there are so many models! Even if you are only considering one, add to that if you look at both the Silverado and Sierra line.

I spent over 2 weeks studying and test driving different configurations at 3 different dealerships. Plus getting pricing online from Dave Smith Motors. Since I wanted Max Tow – that helped narrow it down - that and a premium color choice - and only black perforated leather - made it most def made to order. Not to mention not having to settle and pay for things I didn’t want, such as sun roof and steps.........

Debate what? Get 10K+ plus on the hood and a GM nothing to debate color and options go out the window when money talks!

I got BLACK and a stupid sunroof on my last vehicle but hey money talks......

Yeah, don't care for the front of the standard ram or the rebel. Too much plastic. Like the sport though.

Okay, went and looked at another LTZ z71, just couldn't make the numbers work to my liking. Did like the dealership though. They are however an hour away. If they are good they are with the trip though.

There were 2 in the area, but the second dealership finally sent a price that was 4k over the online price. When I asked them about it, they said the online price does not reflect the actual price due to dealer added options like running boards... I can't think of dealer added options that could total up to that much on an ltz. There was no bed liner or coating or cover, etc... This was even after we had emailed several times already with the prices in the email. And we bought my wife's avalanche at this dealership.
