Go to another dealer or file a complaint with GM. There is nothing, and I mean nothing, in their warranty which discusses seating. That dealership was talking out of their ass.

This is the full warranty info for a 2016 GMC;

http://www.gmc.com/content/dam/GMC/global/master/nscwebsite/en/home/Owners/Warranty/03_pdf/2016-gmc-limited-warranty-and-owner-assistance.pdf

Go read your owners manual to see if there is something noted there.

Recieve a call today to see if I was satisfied with the visit Tuesday and told them the only thing I wasn't happy with was my seat was not fixed or replaced and was told it isn't cowered under warranty because it is a wear item. They are going to have the manager contact me to resolve.

Any update?

Nope I haven't been contacted by the dealer. When I get my survey in mail I will have the same response. I may stop in and see if my salesperson can do something

I talked to GM and they called the dealer and told me it would not be covered under warranty because my truck is lifted and caused the seat to wear from the increased effort to get in and out of it. Its BS I have side step and driver assist handle I use to get in and out. Also the defect is the center of the seat where I sit. There is no wear on the edges.

I just lightly clean with apc and then spray wax or 303. It's coated anyways there's nothing for it to absorb conditioning wise, just shoe brush and vac off any dirt, clean off dirt with a microfiber and apc and protect from uv is all it needs, your urethane coating wore off for some reason.

New cars leather seems crappy anyways but our Honda van I've never done a single thing to so far for 9 years and it's a kid hauler we beat the hell out of it. Only leather wear is edge which is expected (especially if you slide in and out not onto the seat).

Do you get crumbs or something there? that's a sure way to abrade the coating. I do wonder about the perforated, seems it would be easier for jeans and

stuff to abrade as each hole has to have an 'edge'

I think on these only the seat top portion is leather (or whatever you want to call it these days) the sides are likely something else.

but yeah everything seems made cheaper now.

Welcome to the new era of warranty. GM decides and there is nothing the dealer can do. Seat covers, wheels and outside mirrors all require pre-approval from GM.

Guess thats why the goverment had to bail them out . wont but another GM product . Dodge is looking better and better . I would think GM has customer retention people but theres a sucker born every min lol

These seats aren't leather right? "Leatherette" or some other term is what their using I believe. Is this supposed to be more or less durable than leather? Or a cheaper alternative for gm?

Maybe with the exception of "high-end" brands-yes seats are not 100% genuine leather.

Pleather I believe it's called.

Did you know that a leather item that is only 51% leather can be legally called leather? FYI.

I have same problem and they replaced seat. New one is wearing out the same way on my 2018 Tahoe, less than 20,000 on truck! Junk! I have had leather on many cars and they never wore like these. It does not even look like leather were it is wearing out on top edge of bottom, not side.
