First trip to the track.

Went to the track for the first time and I'm very happy how it went. Mainly focused on getting a stock time slip and quickest tuned 93 octane pass. It was 55 degrees with a 10mph head wind. I had a 1/4 tank of gas, full street weight. My truck with me in it is 5500lbs with 3.42 gears and 265/65/r18 wheels and tires. Stock was 15.20 @ 89.86 with a 2.13 60 ft. Quickest pass was 14.64 @ 93.42 with a 2.08 60ft. Next weekend will be e85 passes.

Traction control on? Left foot on brake right foot gas at launch? 5.3l? Man these trucks are quick compared to my old s10. I couldn't break 17 seconds stock in that thing.

Traction Control off, 4wd launch, brake stalled up to 2400rpm, manual shifted to 6200rpm in each gear and yes 5.3 These new trucks are impressive for sure.

My 95 S10 non-vortech 4.3l 2wd 5spd couldn't break 20 seconds =\

That can't be right, according to some uneducated people the 5.3 is a dog and the only way to go is 6.2 as it is faster (they think they drive sports cars) and better on gas too they say :rollin:

I think the 5.3 has plenty of power. I have owned several sports cars new and used. The vehicles these days are so much faster than the 80s and 90s, expectations are also at an all time high for big horsepower from the factory. I imagine the 6.2 is a beast!

6.2 is a nice motor and I'd take one in heartbeat with it running 14.00 stock in a truck like mine, but the 6.2 drinks more fuel, is more expensive as an option, plus is 8 speed only which means another 500 dollars to have that tuned I'll go with my "underpowered" 5.3 that is 400hp/414tq at the crank on 93. E85 should put it at 415hp/430tq at the crank with just a tune and running low 14s, and I'll be very happy with that. Always loved the 5.3 and honestly still think it is one of the best motors GM has made.

I find it a bit impressive that these trucks can get into to 14's, or even the 13's, be 4wd, have great driving manners and comfort and get the fuel mileage they do. Massive improvements compared to what was on the road 30 years ago.

They're not perfect yet, but have come a long way.

I thought only the nht trucks had the 3:42 gears

I think the majority have the 3.42. Mine does. Seems to me the 3.08 is harder to find around here.

I agree with you that the 5.3 is a great motor.. I've driven a 2014-2017 5.3... I'm lucky cause my brother is a salesman... but at the end of the day... knowing that I have a 6.2 and 420 (STOCK) HP just feels damn good.

I bet! I have rode in a tuned 6.2 that runs low 13s tune only and would be very fun to own one. Just not worth the extra 10k to the cost of the truck to me. Now if they add the 6.2 to the Z71 Double Cab 1LT package sign me up. The extra cost for an LTZ plus the cost of the 6.2 just to have the 6.2 is a bit much.

The 5.3 max tow is 373 rear i think. The 6.2 max tow is 342 rear. And the non max tow 5.3 is usually a 342 rear. Dont hold me to it but i think that is how they come.

Well after having a 2014 with a 5.3 and a 2017 with the 6.2 I can say I actually get better MPG with the 6.2. That is also backed up on my fuelly account.

I know it is all about how you drive it and for me it works out better.
