Has anyone installed any after market push button start systems in their truck? And if so, what system did you go with and why?

I'm seeing systems ranging from $70 to $800, hoping someone has done the legwork!

I agree, the only reason my buddy didn't get a new 2017 Silverado with me was because he wanted push start. He's probably gonna end up leasing a Nissan, sigh.

Is there an advantage with a push button? Whats wrong with a key thats worked well for a 100 years?! or is it so you can say MAN I HAVE A PUSH BUTTON STARTER.... YAY!

I didn't think I would enjoy push button start but the car I have has it and I love it, you never have to take the key out of your pocket.

Also to the OP, I don't think I would mess with an aftermarket push button start, that's just asking for issues down the road!

If i added one it would have to look factory and fit where the key is currently. I had a 96 impala that someone installed a push button start on and relocated the key under the dash as a back up if the button failed.

I guess I don't get it. I can do the same with my fob? We have the push button in the car and I find myself always checking to make sure I have the fob in my pocket and I'm never sure if the car is locked etc. Just give me a key. I guess I'm old but I don't see how it improves the experience any?

You and I agree. There have been numerous discussions on the lack of push button start and peoples opinions of it on this forum. No one really convinces the other "side." Common thing to see is "I didn't think I'd like it..." I've used a variation of keyless start at work but on package cars it makes sense and saves tons of time over the course of a day. Sucks when the fob falls off and into the road while driving though lol. Personally I like keys one more defensive tool if I'm forced to not be allowed more effective tools. Plus keys are simple.

My wife's explorer has push start. My Silverado has a key. They both start their respective vehicle.

Much like beauty, it's all in the eye of the beholder.

I personally see no advantage to a push button start. It wouldn't upset me if my truck came with one but it would definitely have zero impact on my vehicle buying decision.

There's extended items that come with push button in oem applications. Several manufactures have the fob sensor preload the car for the fob in range. ie move the seat to position 1 or 2 or even easy access full back position, open powerfold mirrors, interior light and courtesy/puddle lamps come on etc just by walking up to vehicle. In addition, several load the door handle with a discrete button that allows unlock without the fob (just has to be in range still). Those features are something I would definitely like in this truck. It's not the push button alone, it's the fob sensing features that come with that technology these days that drive my desire.

Not really, my first car, a 1950 Mercury had push button start, but to actuate the button you needed to turn the ignition on with a key. I remember my dad's 1948 Nash having the starter button under the clutch pedal. I think most cars adopted ignition keys sometime in the late 1930s. I think the first car to use the ignition key to actually start the engine was the 1949 Chrysler.

My car, a Lexus ISF, has push button start. It's really very handy not having to pull the keys out of my pocket to unlock the doors and startup the car. Unlike my truck. Pull out the keys to activate the remote and then insert the key to start. Push button much more convenient.

    • WTI futures / speculation is just that. WTI futures <> current 4-7% inflation and national average gas price over $4.00/gallon.   The spot price, at delivery, is currently $87-$95/barrel which is why gas prices remain high.   Edit: oH mY gOd mEnTaL BrEaKdoWn In tHE pOsT aBOve mInE. • He does, actually. In another unrelated video he mentions the president called him in the middle of the night to relay some information on a cause (religious based) that he's invested in. Glenn expressed concern that another leftist administration could wield too much power with some procedure the Pentagon was using, classifying certain religions a certain way. Being that he is LDS (Latter Day Saints), he gets hate all the time from ALL over the political spectrum, so he's invested in this. Trump called him back at 5AM to tell him he had made some changes to that classification.   So, yes, they are and have been in contact regularly since the start of the administration. Glenn, of course, always asks his permission before discussing anything on the air.   I already spent an hour or more just searching for these videos. I may have my numbers wrong - I'm not a numbers guy. It may have been a MILLION barrels, not 1.5. The point is, our President, by his actions, gives a crap about America, and US - this is completely OPPOSITE the actions of the prior administration who projected hatred for anyone who wasn't following the left's edicts in lock-step.   Remember, they called January 6th an "Insurrection", when there were ZERO weapons among the crowd, undercover FBI agents agitating the crowd, along with paid leftists acting as aggressors, egging the crowd on in an attempt to whip everyone into a frenzy. It's all been proven.  Pelosi refused Trumps request for more National Guard troops. This smells 100% like an inside job for those with critical thinking skills. Only a handful of guys in the crowd got wrapped up in that, thankfully, but EVERYONE was searched out based on cell phone data, and charges were brought against many. And 6 or so people were locked up and left in solitary confinement for YEARS with ZERO due process!! If you give the slightest crap about our Nation, REGARDLESS of your political leanings, this should frighten you to your core. This is what men suffered, bled, fought, and died against 250 years ago!   This has gone FAR BEYOND left vs. right. This is a  threat to America, and our way of life. This is PRECISELY why Trump, a BILLIONAIRE who could have chosen to take Melania and sit on some tropical island that he could afford to buy himself and RELAX, instead chose to run for office, get hate from literally every corner of the media, get ATTEMPTS on his LIFE constantly, and begin to repair some of the severe damage that's been done to this Great Nation.   I don't know why I bother wasting my precious time here. Everyone has their minds made up. They won't realize we all were correct until it's too late ... after they elect another tyrant that hates America to office (Obama), or another puppet whose administration is secretly running the show behind the scenes (Biden).
    • Hello, Im in a bit of a bind maybe someone could help me out.  We towed our trailer, up a pretty steep incline (395 north of Bishop) done it before no issues. I got to our campground turn truck off, i restarted the truck about an hour later  and check engine light turns on. Found DTC P2C48,  unable to reset.  This morning i removed the plug, there's 12.12v at the plug. Reservoir near firewall is full of coolant, checked for leaks nothing. I dont hear or feel the pump turning on. My dilemma, is nearest dealer  is 4hrs away that has the pump instock. Is it safe to drive? By me checking the available voltage at the connector and not hearing/feeling pump turn on, is it a bad pump? Please help...
    • The figure bandied about is "100 million barrels" so I think a decimal is off somewhere. But that doesn't change the outcome much when the expected flow through the Strait through over the same time should have been more than 2,000,000,000.   So 5%, if that number is even true, and there's sufficient data to believe it's not. Give that man another Fifa peace prize! 5% is less than the flow of a grapefruit-sized prostate blocking the release of cheap lager after a night of bingo.
