wbfn/wykk Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Is it possible to add the factory integrated brake controller to a 2017 Silverado LTZ? Thanks!
Krey1500 Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 I was wondering the same thing cause I was given the factory harness with my truck for it
wbfn/wykk Posted April 5, 2017 Author Posted April 5, 2017 It would be GREAT if you could buy the in-dash switch and the wiring/plug would already be in the dash. I would never be that lucky.....
x219c Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 I'm pretty sure this has been explored in the past. It requires flashing the truck, and I thought the eventual conclusion was that it's not possible. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
Krusty Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 It sure works nice......... Hauled a little rock today..........
wbfn/wykk Posted April 5, 2017 Author Posted April 5, 2017 (edited) Yes, the new faceplate is available with the switch. And maybe i should brush up on my "search" skills... Edited April 5, 2017 by wbfn/wykk
Donstar Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 I was wondering the same thing cause I was given the factory harness with my truck for it My understanding is that "factory harness" that came with our trucks is for an aftermarket brake controller. Is there anybody reading this who has successfully installed an oem brake controller in a truck that didn't originally come with one?
Lgetz Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 (edited) From what others have stated it is not possible to add the JL1 factory trailer brake controller if the truck does not come with it. If you want a quality brake controller get a Tekonsha P3 and put it in the pocket where OE one goes. Under the dash would be a better spot. 4
O_J_Simpson Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Is it possible to add the factory integrated brake controller to a 2017 Silverado LTZ? Thanks! Yes it is. You will need a donor truck for all the parts and reprogram the BCM.
BigBadSierra Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 The dealer will not reprogram the BCM to support it. GM will not allow them access to the area they need to do it in. You need to add an external one. This has been discussed over and over and no one has pulled it off that I have seen. 1

May work for some but longer legged people might bang their knees with it. If I did more towing buying a truck with JL1 option is a no brainer. Right now it is a non issue.

X 2 - Banged my knees on a Prodigy for 10 years in my 2007.5 .......... Never again would I own a rig without a built in controller were it is up in a safer place for use. Same for back up camera..... makes hooking up sooooo much easier.......... Edited April 5, 2017 by Krusty

Sure it voids the truck warranty but it is all about what the Op wants.
