Moving to Dallas, and the roads suck. Thinking about switching to billsteins. What was your total cost to replace them?

If you are doing 5100's Figure $349 for shocks, you can do the rears no problem, fronts need a spring compresser you can rent one or take them to a shop and have them do it. $40-$100ish. Then you need a front end alignment.

I paid $319 at the local Goodyear for the install and alignment after. I thought this was very fair and went with it instead of buying the tools and doing the job myself, which is what I usually do.Plus what I paid on amazon for the struts.

2014 sierra caught a sale $290 for parts normally $350. Rear is simple 20 min install. Was quoted 200 for front and alignment and due to dealer situation as a thank you for nothing flipping my shit and understanding shit happens install was free. Mine are on max height left less than 1/2 inch bout 1/4 inch front rake. Perfect for me so normal loads don't cause Carolina squat lookac540cae37697c331e7c6016707e2ce8.jpg

I paid $350 for the bilstein 5100's and $150 for install and alignment.

Insanely expensive for just the install! With the 4 shocks installed plus dismounting and mounting plus roadforce balance and alignment I paid about $80 more.

To clarify this included the 4 Bilstein 5100 shocks.

As you can see price varies wildly. I caught a sale with a site vendor for my first set and scored my second set off of Ebay for $275. Unless you change the height or have a vehicle with issues already, you won't need an alignment, just a verification on the rack that all is still good. Usually free at most shops.

I have the full set in my Amazon Wish List. There are right about $100 for each. So $400 just for parts.

MRT (Vendor here) has the set for $350 with free ship. Anyone know anywhere else to find these any lower than $350?

PGamboa have sometimes seen the 5100's for maybe $20-25 less on eBay. Usually they run same as price you posted.

    • I am not techy at all but wondered if you have the truck running but sitting still in park as some functions gray out as soon as the truck is moving. I believe in the settings for updates you can choose for it NOT to update and I wonder by chance if maybe that was chosen before and now it won't allow you to chose to press update, I think that is back in the settings menu where it has all the items one wants on or off etc. Also I assume you have a wifi connection and checked that it has some signal strength, not that it would have anything to do with the grayed out updates choice in that case. What I am thinking out loud of here may be be of no value but thought I would suggest it, sometimes it can be the simplest thing that resolves an issue.
    • The so called rare failure that some certainly liked to tout ( die hard Ford fan boys ) as per the lifter failing and wiping out the cam. Back when it started happening the blame was being pointed to the lifters and honestly I never did hear anything myself conclusively one way or the other on that. Ford themselves in I believe 2024 had a technical bulletin I will call it that came out and for some engine platforms they were reprograming the engines idle speed but also they had a software update for the oil pump which then some time later was said what that software update did as to be increasing the oil pressure at idle. It is a good question if that issue was completely solved as one Ford specialist mechanic youtuber said he saw failures after that time period. Like anything there would be the variables, what oil is being used and the OCI and how much idle time gets put on an engine. I've seen some comments to claim that the L8T isn't so happy with high idle time either but I also know that companies that require their vehicle to idle a lot on the job don't tend to get the oil changed often enough for all those hours of idle time and go off of the odometer.
    • My 2026 Silv. 1500 WT (reg cab/short bed/4wd) has the 40/20/40 with storage in lower middle seat as well as the fold-down center bolster/armrest.   With the dual glove boxes this is about as much storage as possible in a std cab IMHO. Bill
    • I have a 2026 base 1500 "WT" regular cab with basic Chevy "Infotainment 3" 7-inch screen/radio. How many speakers do I have If I want to upgrade? Is the audio amp separate from the radio/display unit]? [I listen to classical and it gets a bit raspy at slightly higher volumes. Don't need a sub etc.] Do I have two or 1 speakers in the doors? etc. Thanks Bill  San Jose
    • probably won't get a response from that user, as they haven't returned to the site since making that one post.  users don't (at least I don't, and I haven't seen any setting which would notify me via say, email) get any notification other than going to this site, and checking if they got a response on their thread...
